Title: Bally 1000/2000 Error 41
Post by: Razzy on December 03, 2012, 03:42:47 AM
Good morning, i'm having an issue with my Bally 1000 or 2000. First I can't figure out if it's a 1000 or 2000 series. Secondly, i'm getting an error 41. Whenever I crank the handle the reels release and the first reel immediately locks again. I have pulled out the tray and inspected it for blockages and there are none. The spring was fairly stretched so I replaced it with a similar spring, but the lock/unlock lever seems to be gummed up. I have not tried to clean it, as I don't know the proper procedure to. The other two reels continue spinning but do not stop or lock unless manually stopped or the relay button is pressed.

I can provide more information if needed.

Sounds like a lubrication issue.
More particularly, the old grease is too thick as it has lost its lubrication properties and and has become thick.

Post some pictures and we'll tell you if it's a 1000 or 2000.
Where are you in Florida? North, Central or South?

North Florida, about 50 miles south of Jacksonville.

I'm going to agree with you, it's extremely thick and almost glue-like.

What would be the proper cleaning solution to use?

I usually wipe off as much of the old grease and oil first. Then the free up the stuck or froze levers and linkages I like WD40. Lightly spray the pivot points and move the levers side to side to free them up. Once you have everything loosened up get and used a light weight oil to lube thing up. A drop or two of oil goes a long way. Each of the reels center hubs have oiling holes for those bearings. Once again one to two drops only. Pay close attention to the small cross shafts with all the small links and levers down by the solenoids

I would like to pass on from my expierence, that the 2 Black anodized cross shafts most likely will not spin freely when you try to turn them. Once you have the reel cross shaft assembly cleaned and lubed properly the shafts will spin easily and that is a indication that part reel mechanism linkage is working. I second that on the WD-40 !
