With ZERO credits on machine push the white test button until you get a 2-0 or 2-1 in the Winner Paid window. Then turn the reset key until you get a 5-0 or 5-1 in the Winner Paid window. Push the spin button to change the 0 or 1 to a 2...(5-2). Push the white test button at least one more time to save this setting. You can now put bills in that will go to credit and any wins will now go to credit. You will not need to ever push the Cash/Credit button unless you want to cash out.

This will work no matter what your SP chip is.

Hello- thank you for this reply! I have been wondering how to do this. But, I have an issue-

My machine (IGT Volcano) doesn't let me scroll to 5 - 2. It only goes from 5 - 0, then 5 - 1, then back to 5 - 0 again.

At this point I've gotten the machine to pay out wins in credits. But, I wish I could put 20 quarters into the machine and see 20 credits come up.

Any suggestions? From what I gather, I have an SS4427 reel prom chip and an SP495 game chip. I can't find a PSR for my game chip. Thanks for any help in advance!

Most S+ SP chips do NOT support that. They are designed to accept coins up to the maximum bet and then reject all others until the reels have been spun. Some SP chips support "Montana credits" which allow additional coins above the max bet to go to the credit meter, but only a few of those exist, and I'm not aware of any SP chips that offer that feature and also support your Type 3 Volcano game.
