Title: Code 61 won't go away?
Post by: rdd322 on December 11, 2012, 02:49:48 AM
Replaced the battery on my S+. The machine came up with a 61 code, I pressed the self test button and got the 61_1 code. I shut the door and turned the reset key but the 61 code just returns. Anyone have any ideas?  I did try to clear with a set15 chip but the 61 code just returns

The SET15 chip isn't a clear chip.  You're stuck in a "61 loop" and will need an IVC123 S+ clear chip.  The 61 loop is somewhat common after a battery change.  Use the search button at the top to search for posts related to "61 loop" -- you'll find the same scenario that you've described, and the clear chip is the solution 99% of the time.

I have to agree.  Clear chip.  I had the exact same problem after battery change.

I  see these all the time after battery changes.  Have changed hundreds of them.  I have had 100% success just changing the game chip to a different SP number (to one that of course supports the correct game type that you are using).  The problem is with the EEPROM on the motherboard (I believe it is getting corrupted).  Putting a different game chip in the machine forces a write to the EEPROM which clears the problem.  Then you can can put your original game chip back in or just leave in the new game chip (your preference).
