Title: IGT Fortune I Draw Poker with RCA 1401a Monitor
Post by: gposing on December 15, 2012, 09:54:19 PM
The other day the screen seemed darker then normal and now nothing.   I checked the voltage from the wire that plugs into the bottom of the monitor and there is 134v.  that seems high, but not sure.  How can I check to see if the tube is bad or the boards?  Not sure where to start on this one.  Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks
Gary

This is where having a couple of pieces of monitor test equipment comes in VERY handy...

Easiest check to do first is to use a high voltage meter to see if you have the proper voltage to the anode under the cup on the side of the tube. DO NOT USE A MULTIMETER TO CHECK THIS as it will be >20KV

If you have a CRT tester/rejuvenator then you can easily check the tube's emissions and for shorts, but you MUST make sure to discharge the tube first.

I dont have any tools like that.  Weird thing happened.  Last night I went out to take a look at it, plugged it in and it worked.  the screen seemed dark, tapped on the gain control and it was perfect.  Now it was not in the rails but just sitting in there, removed it, put it in the right way and now it does not work again.  :30-   So any ideas what could cause that?  :103-
