Title: Bally 831 H model
Post by: David B Fowler on December 21, 2012, 03:08:06 PM
I and fairly new to Bally EM's as far as getting into the operation of relays and switches.
First question is what does the H mean at the end of the model #?
Having problem with correct payouts only on the second wheel. I feel the wiper arm might not be in the right position, not sure.
Also the wheel mech has a relay on the rear right side that says "Melon J.P. Relay" The reel bundle in it does not have any melons on them at all.
Is it possible to have the wrong wheel bundle for the wiring on the wiper boards?
Talked to a few people here and the answer is not really clear to me. I might have to get a more detailed wiring diagram for this machine.
I dont mind getting a new reel bundle with the melons if it will cure the problem. But ..... if I do that I will need the reel and top glass for it as well.
Maybe easier to make it work with the reel bundle that is on it. The 2nd wheel has 3 bells on it and they all pay out as the 2nd cherry on the center line.
Any one have a clue or ideas?

Uh oh...those symptoms don't sound real good. Let's hope one of our EM gurus can help out. I know Foxsslots, Amachanic, and OldReno could help for sure...

EMs aren't like the more modern machines. Finding the right reel set, if that ends up being the problem, may be quite the challenge.

Am I understanding correctly, that on the 2nd reel, the bell lands on the Payline, but pays as if was a cherry? So you could possibly have a mismatched reel set and payout/award glass?

I did talk to Mr Foxslots and he wanted me to check the wiring on the wiper board for broken wires. I looked but didnt see any.... Do feel that there is a mismatch because of the Melon J.P. relay and switches. The index discs are correct for that bundle but the bundle might not be right for the wiper board wiring on the assembly.
So I am looking .... and going to chech further into the payout and the button assignment for payouts on the second wheel. More to come.... got the feeling this will take a while.
Thanks for the response ..... I will at least get a great deal of education on a 3 liner machine by the time I am done.

Check out this http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=19336.0 and look at reply #17 to get a quick look see if your reel wipers are close or not.  Then with reels in, line up highest pay, and they should engage on the deepest cuts (normally).  With that pay on line, check other side of board (the wiring side) to see if that position is wired or blank.  You might have a wiper off by 1 position...?
The melon relay may be for another pay, it may not necessarily be for melons just because it is labelled so....
A picture of the paytable would be helpful, and also pic or description of the reel symbols themselves.

The model number should be printed on the switch cards behind the reels, and should also stamped into the starwheels. If they all match, maybe someone had it apart for cleaning and lubricating and put the reels back on the shaft in the wrong order.

That seems to be too simple .... so its probably what it is. Thanks for pointing me in that direction. I will take a look when I return from the holiday break.
