Title: Tokens vs. quarters
Post by: 4 Deuces on January 14, 2013, 06:04:04 PM
I'm thinking about getting the quarters out of my house and using tokens instead (completely cash free between tokens and tickets).

What's a fair price to pay for tokens?
Can I simply replace the quarter in my comparitor with a token?  Do I also have to replace the knife or any other hopper parts?

[edit]Removed link to Ebay ad in case it's a member - don't want to scrutinize their ad.[/edit]

Thanks!  :Dave

Are these a good deal from Ebay?

I always make sure they are .984 in dia. or 25 mm, metal  and are NEW.

If you have more than one machine I would get 1,000 and split it up. I have over 7,000
but hardly use that many (1,000 per machine).

Going price for 1,000 right now is about $70.00.

When I had quarters in my machines they always suffered shrinkage. LOL

The reason Ron is suggesting NEW tokens is that they'll all need to be made from the same metal alloy (i.e., the same brand). Otherwise, only the tokens that match the one you put in the comparitor will work. Technically, it's okay if they're used, as long as they are all made of the same alloy.

Thats what I found also. I had over 10,000 tokens left over from some Paschislo Machines I had a few years ago

and they were all different kinds with many different images on them. I had to sort them out and pick out about a thousand or so that were

all the same. Only the ones that were exactly the same as the token in the comparator would work.

And if you can find actual gaming tokens from a casino even better.
They are high quality alloy metal and stamped within close tolerance. Some of those Japanese tokens are garbage.

when i decided to use coins instead of tokens I looked at what the cost of the tokens were, compared to what the shrinkage is. dependng on the cost of the token it may actually cost more for the tokens than what you would lose in shrinkage, I count my 4000 plus $ikes (not all of them are in the machines most are locked up) every 3-4 months just to see if they are leaving me.

so far i am only missing 1 and it probably fell on the floor and rolled under something
