Title: S6000 - Problem when changing game theme
Post by: bruno on January 17, 2013, 12:20:44 AM
Hi,
I have two S6000 (manuf.date 06/98 & 08/99) both with a 1997 MPU board.
I used to change regularly the game themes.
There was Plum Crazy, Blazing 7, Black & White Double Jackpot, Double Dragon, etc...
After having installed the new kit (glass+strips) I change the Personality Chips (U18 & U20), I do a Complete SafeRamClear, I re-program my settings by test#11 and here we go for a new game.
Never a problem.
I now have a problem with this game : Silver & Gold
When switching power ON while pressing and holding pseudo coin and test buttons : The SafeRamClear does not operate and the display shows error code 80  (Manual says : ROM Checksum Error / The checksum of the Main program (U12,U15,U3,U4)
or the Personality (U20,U18) does not match the expected checksum)
The problem is the same with my two machines.
I have 2 different SMIs for this game #7486 & #7487 : same problem with both.
Why all other games work, and not that one ?
Is it a problem with the Mains ?
Thank you for your suggestions and help.

Most likely the U18 and U20 personality chips.  Have you tried the known working set that was in previously?  If these allow it to clear then that would verify it.  Could be corrupt chips or someone may have burnt them from bad files (not asking).

Thanks,
Wayne

Yes, I've tried the set that was in previously, I've also tried some few old ones and all sets allow it to clear.
The #7487 comes from an us ebay seller, the #7486 from a machine in operation in France that seemed to work.
But maybe they are both corrupt.
Thanks Wayne.

When the error code 80 appears, the flashing of the tower and button lamps is 2 per second, so it confirms that the problem is U18 & U20
