Title: Luxor Casino in Las Vegas Post by: DannyG804 on January 25, 2013, 01:34:56 PM Anybody ever stay here? Or even if you know anything about it, I'm all ears! I know it's close to mandalay bay. A few of my friends and I are considering staying there.
Thanks, Danny Title: Re: Luxor Casino in Las Vegas Post by: emt232004 on January 25, 2013, 01:42:18 PM I've only stayed at planet hollywood and would not stay there again. It was not all that clean and had to change rooms 3 times during check in as something was broke in each of the rooms.
Title: Re: Luxor Casino in Las Vegas Post by: TPMARTIN on January 25, 2013, 01:44:42 PM Stayed there several times and enjoyed it. One thing I will say is the rooms in the Pyramid are not for me. I ask for a room in the ajoining tower which are nice rooms and what I really like about the tower rooms is you walk out the side door and you walk across the street right into the Excalibur Race & Sports Book.
Enjoy Title: Re: Luxor Casino in Las Vegas Post by: DannyG804 on January 25, 2013, 01:59:38 PM Stayed there several times and enjoyed it. Enjoy When's the last time you were there? How were the slot machines - did they have plenty of s2000's?? Thanks for the replies! Title: Re: Luxor Casino in Las Vegas Post by: MikeCamp on January 25, 2013, 02:26:41 PM I stayed there a few years back, slots seemed a little tight to me as well. We have started staying downtown at the Golden Nugget. Downtown slots seem to be a little looser, atmosphere is less corporate and more old vegas. Love the Freemont Experience every night, definately a party atmosphere. Also like to be able to walk from casino to casino without having to walk a mile from door to door. Course depends on what you are looking for, better deals downtown, big glitzy hotels, higher prices, trendy clubs etc... then the strip is the place.

The Luxor is an option because one of my friends has 2 free nights there via his mlife comps. I have stayed at Mirage, Venetian and MGM grand in the past. All were good and somewhat 'in the middle' of the strip. These guys im going with are in their late 20's so I'm sure they would prefer Aria, Cosmo or Bellagio, etc. I know that Luxor is away from the heart of the strip but just wondered about it. My guess is we'd spend very little time at the hotel.
Title: Re: Luxor Casino in Las Vegas Post by: slotsteve on January 25, 2013, 02:50:56 PM best choice downtown
Title: Re: Luxor Casino in Las Vegas Post by: MikeCamp on January 25, 2013, 03:00:59 PM The Golden Nugget is probably the nicest. I know the Plaza is very old at the end of Fremont Street but I also heard they just redid all their rooms and they are supposedly nice but I have not stayed there. Golden Nugget the rooms are very nice and reasonably priced, of course the weekend will cost you more, cheapest time of week to go is Sun - Thu.
Title: Re: Luxor Casino in Las Vegas Post by: slotsteve on January 25, 2013, 03:04:05 PM we never paid downtown but if you do have to you get 3 nites for less than price of 1 on strip , plus slots pay better downtown imo
Title: Re: Luxor Casino in Las Vegas Post by: dale on January 25, 2013, 03:08:43 PM This may give you an idea of percentages of the slot machine in the Luxor ( granted this is only one machine that was retired in 2007 or 2008). I have a Barcrest Jewel in the Crown that had an SS8635- 90% chip in it that came directly from the Casino.
Do you gambling on Fremont Street, much better chances! Title: Re: Luxor Casino in Las Vegas Post by: MikeCamp on January 25, 2013, 03:21:34 PM If you want to drop some coin on a nice meal eat at the resturant at the Plaza (the round elevated room on the front of the hotel). Oscars beef, booze and broads was a nice evening experience. You can look down fremont street at night while you have dinner. We got some neat history from the waiter and one of the broads :) Its not cheap but it was fun. Tony Romo's Ribs in the Horseshoe across from Golden Nugget is some good food with very reasonable prices. You can also pay to zipline down part of Fremont street. If you venture all the way down to the El Cortez (do it during the day light hours) its really old Vegas and the gambling was extremely reasonably priced and again some old time feel.
If you want to see some of the old time signs schedule a tour of the Neon Museum which is walking distance, maybe 1 mile from Fremont street. Title: Re: Luxor Casino in Las Vegas Post by: DannyG804 on January 25, 2013, 03:23:46 PM Odds were always better downtown, so says almost everyone I've talked to. But this particular trip has to be on the strip. These young guns want to be in the hot spot. I'm sure when they get to my age, they'll consider downtown. :259- to everyone that posted! Thanks for your opinions.
Title: Re: Luxor Casino in Las Vegas Post by: MikeCamp on January 25, 2013, 03:30:32 PM One more post and I'll shut up on my "selling" of downtown. My daughter went out with us for her 21st birthday, she kinda wanted to do the strip but we asked her to trust us and she was sold after staying downtown. She went back out last year with her friends, she tried like crazy to convince them of downtowns qualities, they ended up staying at NY NY, loved the hotel but went downtown one night for some gambling and the fremont street experience, then the friends were sold. They said we should have stayed down here.
Ok, enough sales for today, gonna climb down off my soapbox. Hope you have a great time in Vegas, I'm counting down to my son's bday in Oct when we will return if not before. May have to ride the Harley out that direction before then. Title: Re: Luxor Casino in Las Vegas Post by: DannyG804 on January 25, 2013, 03:47:12 PM Mike, that's quite the sell (that story). We'll stay on the strip but I will make sure we check out the downtown area and see what they say!

Ive worked for the Golden Nugget . Dont stay there . Also the heath Dept shut down a few restaurants there as well as the Employee Dinning Room . They found german cockroaches . Title: Re: Luxor Casino in Las Vegas Post by: ramegoom on January 25, 2013, 09:30:41 PM I always stay at the Luxor when I'm in LV because of the big "flashlight" on the top of the building. You can wander anywhere you want in LV, and always find your hotel. Just look for the light beam. You can see it from the desert, it lights up the sky.

My guess is we'd spend very little time at the hotel. After reading the whole thread, I agree that you and your younger friends should stay on the strip and party on the strip. If you can afford it, try Craftsteak (but it's pricey. >$100 ea). If you can't and want a good steak, try the steakhouse at Circus Circus. The rest of that property is a dump and best avoided but their steakhouse is a hidden gem. The best buffet going right now is the bacchanal buffet at Caesar's palace -- also pricey for a buffet (about $45 for dinner). Best advice is to get there not long before 3pm on a mid-weekday. If you pay by 3 you get the lunch price (just under $30 with a players card) and then get the dinner selection. I agree that the Fremont Street Experience downtown is well worth visiting and a fun place to spend an evening. ... However, if you're looking for good value gambling, forget the strip and forget downtown. Go to one of the Station casinos. I would suggest either (or both) Palace Station, which is near the strip (just west of the freeway on Sahara past Rancho) or Boulder Station (on Boulder highway, just south of where the I-515/95 freeway crosses over Boulder Hwy.) Station slots and VP will pay back better, on average, and their blackjack is much better (and they still have $5 double deck tables most of the time.) Every Station has at least a few 100%+ VP machines (usually Deuces Wild) but you'll have to hunt for them. Best value for a breakfast buffet? Palace Station or Boulder. $4.99 w/card w/an omelet station and otherwise good food and selection (but slightly different) at both locations. However, there are much better choices than Stations for lunch and dinner. Another great choice if you like seafood is the Oyster bar at Palace Station in the main casino area. No, I don't work for Station. I just live here. Stat :31- |
