Post by: Nixs on January 25, 2013, 03:13:47 PM
i have had this for years and really never worked, replaced the power supply(which was bad for sure) it did work every once in a while
replaced the i/o with brand new board, when i turn the game on it bongs once and goes to the tilt light by the coins display
the display shows no error code only the tilt light stays on
tried pushing the red button inside and does nothing the lock on side does nothing either
anybody know what is going on with it:)

thanks!!! Nick

Are all of the voltage LEDs lit up on the circuit board inside the card cage?

yep all lights on for voltages and the error light on the left
i tried reseeding the boards also

Hmm. Maybe reseat the chips on the board, too? Do you have any other chip sets to try? That's frustrating that it's not really giving you an error message.

Could be the CPU.
Just tested 4 CPU's for anothe member here and three were bad.
Also do you know for sure the I/O is good? was ot verfied in another machine?

yep

Then I would start with the CPU.

which part is that on the board?

The machine has two boards in the card cage located inside the machine just above the hopper.
The upper board is the I/O board and handles all the outputs for the machine
and the lower board is the CPU and runs the programs for the machine.

If you have a bad CPU it can cause the fail led to illuminate on the I/O board.
That is if you absolutely know that the I/O board is good

can i replace the chip or need another board?
if i get another board will i have to program it  with a special chip or can i just put the chips on it

If you try another board you can swap your chips to the new board.
But you will need a RAM clear XU-3 chip in the denomination of the machine.
If it going to be a nickel machine, then that is a differant RAM clear chip than the one used for a quarter machine.

ok rplaced the entire board and swapped the chips same problem
i did notice the 2nd pin on one of the chips was bent, fixed it it
same tilt lights up and no codes

do i need to get a clear chip for this of a new set of chips
does anybody have any?

thanks!!!

No, a clear will not do anything for you at this point.
Since you tried the I/O and the CPU, I'm not sure what else it could be.
I still believe the issue is with one of those boards. If you send me a PM I'll let you know what it will cost for me to check them out and let you know the status of the boards you purchased. Or if it was from a vender, maybe call him to tell them what the boards are doing in your machine.

Seen this before, check/replace the socket for XU-3 on the MPU board.
People go to clear the machine, they get bad data and it writes shit to the EEPROM.
If he gets good lites on the MPU, a single bonk and nothing the MPU is not running...
Even better, install a low profile ZIF socket there or a quality roundpin socket like a Augat.

Kirk, you might be on to something but I still think he has a bad board somewhere since he said he also has the fail light illuminated.

Also I sent you a PM about the run-a-way hopper syndrome you had before. Can you shed some light?

replaced the old board with a brand new one same thing but fail light comes on after the bong now instead of when plugged in
