Title: Not sure what I'm getting into with this progressive stuff but here goes.
Post by: MikeCamp on January 30, 2013, 01:44:21 PM
Hello all,

I bought a nice Triple Double Wild Cherry that appears to have some hardware left in it to run a standalone progressive or at least thats what I think it is.  I've done some reading on here and found bits and pieces but still a bit lost.  I will post a couple of pictures of what is in the machine and hopefully we can go from there.  My first priority is to just see if it works by getting something to appear on the display.  Then I need to figure out where to hook the wires to allow it do display my progressive jackpot (which I understand has to be turned on in the machine).  So as anyone who has tried to do this before you understand I'm a bit overwhelmed with this little project.  But hey its a chance to learn right?  It appears that it did once work in the machine and not sure why anyone would disconnect anything but who am I to question others motives.  Anyway, here are my pictures.  Please Help because my new machine would look so much better with some numbers on its progressive display :)

Don't know why only one picture showed up but here is the rest of it.

Ooohhh, I hate progressives!! They scare me, fear of the unknown I guess.  :hide3-     Darrell does ours, while I play dumb and don't get involved!  :97-

Many of the guys here do them all the time though, and I'm sure will help you out. Looks like you have everything you need in the pictures. You just need to download that program (dont ask me the name, i have no clue) to a laptop to program....I think!  :103-

Well....judging from the photograph posted above, I see that the power harness to the Mikohn driver board is hooked up
and there's a ribbon cable also installed connecting to the display panel.
However, there's no communication cable connected from the Mikohn driver board to receive any input from the machine!

Here's the driver board end of the required harness needed...>>>

Here's what cable looks like to go to mother board

I see bits and pieces of how to do it all over (or either I'm to stupid to see the big picture).  I was looking for a step 1 thru step x on what to do and how to do it kinda method.  Maybe that should be my goal is to create something like that in this process.  I need to find where the wire that connects the box to the slot machine goes etc....  I did just dig out a old Dell laptop that still had a serial port on it because it appears I need one of those and from a previous post I found some dos bases PSP software so gonna load that and see where that gets me.  I just need to make sure I have all the correct wiring connections made and the slot machine setup to send the signal to it.  Fun fun, live and learn.

Bad news though....you're missing the CHAMII+ "Standalone" driver chip as well...  :8- :37-
You're gonna have to place a WTB ad in the "Classifieds" section of NLG for that.

Anyways, here's a drawing of the harness from somewhere...>>>

You have to make a cable to go from serial port on Mikohn control panel to serial on computer

There's a heck of a lot of info on all of this in the CHAM2+ sections of NLG.
Many, many members have installed these ancient progressive thing's into their machines.
Try typing in "CHAMII+" into the search box
and be prepared for a lotta reading!
But the cool thing is a lot of members posted several photographs of this  puppy!
There's a lot to learn!  :89-

Will the device do anything without that chip?

I could be wrong but you are working on an IGT 2000? You should not need chip. The Bally uses chip

Oh crap, just also noticed that the shiney little thing sticking up next to the chip above the connector in the above picture is broke off on mine.  Is that something that can be purchased and re-soildered?

I found the end of the cable going to the mb, it was cut off and could not find the rest of the cable so guess I'll see if radioshack has the other end and try building one and at the same time pick up a 9pin serial cable :)

It's not going to work without the U19 chip

Stormrider is correct. I was talking about the little chip that goes in JT1 on backboard or motherboard on Bally.
