Title: S2000 reel glass
Post by: mvco on February 02, 2013, 06:28:47 PM
Hi all,

Relatively new to the S2000 scene, and wanted to throw this out and see what anyone might know.

My first couple S2000 games came with short reel glass.  The windows in the glass to view the reels are crystal clear, and a set of new shiny reel strips looks great and glossy.

Recently, I have picked up a few more cabinets, all with long reel glass.  Even with new nice and shiny reel strips, they look dull through the long reel glass.  I discovered that on these glasses, there is an obvious tinting, or hazyness about them.  They do not let as much light through.  Open the machine door, beautiful shiny reel strips.  Close the door, look at the strips through the glass, they are a bit foggy, and even less backlit reel light shows through the reel glass.  Looks lame next to a game showing off it's nice reel strips.

Does anyone know why IGT started tinting some of these glasses?  Admitted, they do make a ratty set of reel strips not look so bad.  But mine are new and nice, and this is driving me nuts.

I notice the reel glasses with a chrome looking border are the ones that are crystal clear through the reel windows.  If the glass has a translucent diffferent color surrounding the reel cutout, these are the ones that do not let as much light through.

Is there such a thing as a crystal clear long reel glass?  If so, I would jump for joy to buy some!  I need one for a single line 3 reel game, a 5 line, and also one for a fourth bonus reel game.

Hope I am not the only one who has noticed this difference in reel glasses.

Thanks,
Bill

:259-  :205-  Absolutely! You are 100% correct (based on my findings!)! Colored window frames = cloudy/hazy reel windows...chrome window frames = clear reel windows.

My guess is glare issues, but who knows really. We need a retired IGT tech on here....

Yes, wish one would chime in.

I would love to buy some clear reel glass, need two for 6-6-3 displays single line 3 reel.  Also need one 5 line 6-6-3 displays as well.

Also need one for a fourth reel bonus game.  All the bonus game glasses appear to have this diiffusing coating on the glass.  ARGH!

If anyone has the cystal clear ones mentioned above, name your price!  Not looking for anything free, and will glady pay up to see my reels in all their glory, LOL's   :-)
