Title: Need help with A Bally 6000 Blazing 7s Error 91-0
Post by: erbs on February 03, 2013, 12:48:15 PM
Picked up a few Bally 6000s, new venture for me, usually stick with IGT. This is a Blazing 7s with the progressive display. When I started it up got a 91-0 error. From the info I found out its no communication? Not sure where to start out. I would like to hook up the progressive. I believe I have the parts needed for it, would need to verify that I do and how to hook up. I do have the U-28 & U-43 clear chips. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks Ed

Thanks for the fast replies. :3- Battery is good 3.64v. If I hook up the progressive ( with some help ) would that take of the error? Or should I do a clear and worry about the progressive display later? I'm not sure about the steps for the clear. The only other Bally I had worked on was the Game Maker. Thanks Again.

Setting up the progressive requires "PSP" (a DOS program) and you'll need a little knowledge to use it. If you're not gona use the pro.. you need to be sure to set # 02 in the 11d menu to 0000

:212-

The progressive is (or should be :5-) a Mikohn CHAMII+ (note the plus) stand alone.

Below is a link to my concise thread for the Bally 5500. The first post has a link to the thread for the 6000 (although it goes to the end of the thread so you'll have to navigate to the beginning yourself.)
http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=7606.0 (http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=7606.0)

You'll need a copy of PSP and an older computer with a serial port to program the progressive. You can find PSP 2.0 and the manuals in the file system download section under Mikohn. You might also want to browse the Mikohn progressive board. You'll have to make a modified serial cable to get the progressive to talk to the computer (simple mod).

Depending on whether or not the casino gutted the machine, you might need to either buy or more likely build a cable to connect the progressive to the machine. I concisely documented the connections on the 5500 (bypassing the convoluted double harness) but the 6000 backplane is different, so you'll have to wade through the 6000 thread to learn where the connections go for your machine.

That should be enough to get you started. We'll  be able to answer questions along the way and help you get it all done.

It can be a small PITA to get the progressive working (less so if the cable connecting the machine to the prog. is still intact in your machine), but the reward of seeing the thing working and watching it increment as you play in the colors and style of your choice, with an optional message that you created, makes it well worth the effort!

Thanks Lindam1 & Stat, I would definitely like to get the progressive display to work. I will read over your posts and see what I can find out. I believe I have all the cables.

Sounds like setting up the progressive display is a pita. I will work on getting the machine up and running 1st then I can look into getting the display to work.

Well, you'd want to have the machine working before setting up the progressive in any case. I thought it was okay otherwise. In machine setup options (11 d) change option 2 to 0 and option 7 to 0. That will disable the progressive. Once the rest of the machine is 100% you can try setting up the Mikohn.

You might want to note the current settings for both of those before changing them. Option 7 will almost certainly = 1, option 2 might be anything.

Btw, the first thing to check on the Mikohn is the battery. It's actually a rechargeable "watch" type, but it still goes dead.

:3- :3- :3- Machine is working. Had a problem clearing. With help from Lindam1 figured out I had bad clear chips. Now I guess I can start on trying to figure out how to get the Progressive to work. I will need help with that. I believe I have all the parts needed. Thanks to all for the help. Ed
