Title: More New Guy Chip Questions
Post by: genebopp on February 04, 2013, 11:42:45 PM
I have a Super Star Spin with an SG000399 and sb101122.  The MPU board is P# 75510504 Rev.B

I want to change the name on the printer tickets, my MPU board might need replaced (it works but has green battery damage)  and was thinking about changing the denomination.

It looks like the PSR says:

Key 31
Ram Clear IVC00223
Ram and Eprom clear IVC00224

Is there any reason to pick the IVC00223 clear chip or should I just get the IVC00224?

Should I buy the KEY 31 or is there a more usefull chip just in case I buy a new machine in the future?

Thanks

Gene

key 31 will do for now, and IVC00224
I would acquire a new 504B mpu as well, just in case

If you do decide to get another machine it might have what is called an Enhanced board or 1270 board the key 31 does work with the 1270 and legacy adapter board

Best practice is to just get a key45 and clear 224. Then you're covered for whatever S2000 themes or macine styles you might get. The exception being if you get a game that uses a 1270 MPU and an R board instead of a legacy adapter. They are currently kinda of rare though

Ivc224 is not backwards compatable to a 80960 board. He will still need a ivc97 to be covered for all.

Really? All I use is a 224 and three of my five S2000's use 500 series board configurations. Haven't had a problem with it

This is what I have on file, and Slot Steve just went thru a mess on a bunch of s2000'S for this very problem. He was trying to clear and set them with a 45 and 224 and could get nowhere. Lots of errors. I sent him a 31 and a 97 and all good.

Not disputing your evidence, just saying I use them on everything from standard games thru vision and Reeltouch with both board configurations and it's always worked for me. The 97 is a good chip on most themes for sure, just pointing out what's worked best for me

Not saying they will not work, just that they can cause issues and you should be aware of this info just in case you are banging your head against the wall wondering why your machine will not clear and set properly like Steve was. The more you get set in your ways and confident in what you do...you forget and overlook things like these little details.

Like genebopp stated, the PSR for SG000399 states to use IVC00223 for RAM clear, and IVC00224 for RAM and EEPROM clear.  PSRs for SG000363 and SG000598 state the same thing.  It's not based on the board, it's based on what SG chips are being used.  Although older clear chips like 97 may work, it's not what the PSR calls for, and may not work in all cases.  224 definitely works on 50X series boards though.

Not arguing the point at all! But why does IGT put out  a document that completely counterdicts the PSR.  one states use it and one state it will not work...thanks IGT :103-
