It can be a pain in the butt, but removing the complete arm assembly is the easiest way, then you can change it on a table in front of you with more room to work. All you need to remove the assembly is an allen wrench and socket with extender for the cabinet bolts

I have the bolts out of the inside of the cabinet I didn't take the arm off yet. I was hoping someone had a simple yet effective trick. Thanks much for confirming.

You should have taken outside off first. Big allen screw in bottom of handle

There's an allen head screw that holds the arm on. Remove it, pull the arm off then pull the cap off the shaft and the assembly will come out from the inside. Make sure you unplug the solenoid and microswitch from the assembly before you try to leave the cabinet with that assembly though

Back a few years ago someone posted pictures and instructions how to remove a slot arm.
As usual my memory has failed again. Anyone remember?

Just a thought are you sure the solenoid is bad? I had one with a bad connector and this was a much easier fix

Does anyone know what size Allan Wrench you need? I'm trying to take the arm off the cabinet I have, but all the wrenches seem to be just a little too big, or just a little too small.  :103-

I have had a bad cabinet IO board cause this issue.  After bending myself like a pretzel, I was able to test the solenoid from inside the machine to verify by disconnecting the wires and using a standard meter.  Might want to try before you go through the hassle of removing the whole arm....
