Title: bally 831 both flourescent door lights not working
Post by: roscoe 831 on March 03, 2013, 10:36:14 PM
both flourescent lights on door are not working.  Machine would blow the 10A fuse every time machine was plugged in.  Seperated plug below  top left hinge where the harness connects to door wires.  Noticed that the connections of the whitie  wires were slighty melted. Disconnected the white wires from the top and bottom plugs. With the white wires disconnected from the plugs I reconnected the plugs.  Machine powered up and everthing works except the flourescent lights on door.  when connecting the two white wires together the 10A fuse blows does'nt look like the white wire leading to the top flouresent is shorted or damaged. Help please!!! I don't know what I'm doing and can'nt find anyone who works on slot machines where I live.

Were those 2 white wires connected together originally?  Until you solve the problem be sure that you tape the ends up so you don't short anything out, including yourself.  Any pics?

Very  possible that the ballast has an internal short. I would replace the ballast and starters. If you isolated the circuit from them and it doesnt blow a fuse, it would seem that the problem is after that point. So.... ballast  and starter and bulb would be where I put my attention.

I had a similar problem and it was a bad ballast. Other problems that I had were that some of the other bulbs were replaced with bulbs of the same size and shape but different voltages and that was what kept tripping the fuze.
