just added coin handling to my s2k machine (thanks to coorslight for the stuff) and everything works except for it gives me a call attendant about every 5 coins or so. i have gone up and down on the voltage adjustment on the upper unit with the only difference being at too high a voltage it rejects all coins. now i'm back to where it was when i got it. i've spray cleaned it with no difference. i did have to slide the one adjustment so quarters would fit through it at first. i didn't know where it should go so i just put it at a place quarters would go through ok. i really can't see why anything should be rejected from a mechanical point of view. do the comparitors just get old and i need a new one? or get this one rebuilt or something? it does the same with real quarters or brand new tokens. any ideas?

You do have a coin in comparator?

I'm guessing that the "voltage adjustment" being talked about is the sensitivity adjustment on the comparator, and that perhaps the coin-in optics don't have the correct encoder to funnel the coins past the optics correctly (assuming it's a similar setup to the S+).

on the coin comparitor (the top one - the one that clicks into 4 plastic feet) the back of it has a small hex head screw which says "slide for different coin" or something like that. it looked like it was adjusted for a nickel and a quarter would not go through it. by loosening the screw i could slide it more open against a spring and re tighten the screw, thereby allowing quarters to go through.

it could be sensitivity. i may have said it wrong but on the back it says 13v and shows a little arrow in the direction to increase the voltage - or at least that's what it looks like to me.

yes. the quarters go in and register ok, but about every fifth one it doesn't register and brings up a message which says "call attendant". i then have to open either the main door or the belly door to reset it then it will take more quarters until the next time one doesn't register. every so often one will go in that doesn't register AND doesn't set the "call attendant" message. all coins go to the hopper though regardless of whether they register or not.

That slide you moved to allow quarters to enter is actually where a "sample" coin is placed for the unit to operate correctly. You shouldn't have to tighten any screw to keep it in place. If you're using quarters, put a quarter in there, if you're using tokens, put a token in there. The other adjustment is sensitivity, not voltage. You can increase or decrease the sensitivity of the unit to make it scrutinize inserted coins more or less

Sounds like the wrong size coin guide is installed.  It is located just below the comparitor as part of the coin optics.  Usually it's too big (originally for a $1 dollar coin) and a quarter is allowed to move to much left/right as it falls, causing the error.  The one pictured below is the correct one for quarter size.  In a jam, I have used a zip tie to make the opening smaller until I get the right size one...

perfect! i'm such a newbie. once i loosened that screw a bit so the spring would work, it was obvious how the sample coin went in there and now it only gives me an error if i feed tokens very fast trying to screw it up on purpose. thanks for the help. you guys are the best! :)

Tokens are kinda light and will do that occassionally anyway. I would almost bet with quarters it would be very rare for that to happen anymore
