Title: tell me what I got into!!
Post by: coorslight115 on March 25, 2013, 01:44:40 AM
Had a customer drop this off to see if I could get it going cheap. Speaker humm is all I get when powered up. Have not done much other than check fuses at this point. No video at all and battery dead on board. Slight leakage but minimal damage. 1983 production on id tag. Any pointers other than boat anchor??

Is that a Bally V2000? If it is I know Barry Fox has a Ram chip for them. I picked up a V1000 last year and it's problem was with the plug connections on the boards stack. Replaced the burnt plug and connections, worked great.

I,m in a small town and always get people bring  slots here for us to repair we send 99% of them  away , the crap they bring is old and missing a ton of parts , once you work on it they think it has a lifetime free repair , much easier to try to sell them something that still has parts available , time is money

Normally I would send it away too, but this guy buys from me and pays well. He has a very small budget in mind for this. It is going to be a simple cheap fix or it goes to Ford for his boat.  I will replace battery, check fuses, clean and wiggle some connections and test for voltages..when the six pack runs out so does his $100 diagnostic fee and luck...put a very short limit on this one due to age and condition...have much better things to get going for spring sales...
Most likely any part it needs will be more than he wants to put into it.. Found the manual so time to eat some dinner and head down stairs with the sixpack. I charge by the sixpack...not the hour for good customers..hahahahahah

that's what appears to be what is referred to as a three card rack.  usually found in a V-2000 game.  power supplies do fail in those quite often. the connectors on the side also go bad, the connection is a "V" that the wire is pressure fitted into. over time the connection becomes intermittent. If my memory is correct, I think you are missing a crucial part. there is a interconnect that joins all three boards together, thus the exposed edge fingers on the front of the three boards. typically if the monitor has 115vac going to it and the high voltage is good you will see a flash when you turn it off. or you could  feel the static electricity on the front of the tube.

only one person that I am aware of  will repair these boards,  they are neat machines when they work,  if the boards, monitor and power supply are defective its not worth it. because you here static in the speaker could indicate power to the board and something coming out of the sound board.

never saw the dual switches near the coin comp.

Hope this helps

No flash or static from monitor. All lights dead including floresent tubes. no 120v to the ballasts. I am loosing it somewhere. Cleaned all the connectors. 12 volt input making to to all test points. Need to trace the 120 circuit. leaning towards power supply transformer, have to get clearer diagram of  wire pin out to power board. Got 120 to power board on right behind hopper and to service outlet on left. Need to pull that board and look closer.Ran out of beer for tonight...hahaha

I'd be interested in that machine if it becomes boat anchor status.
