Title: Rescued Sterling 7's from the mice!
Post by: phil10400 on April 21, 2013, 02:01:52 PM
Hello All - new to this great site!!  I recently acquired a couple of machines from a guy 'who was going to get around to them one day" and one happens to be a Universal Sterling 7's that was DOA!  After opening and clearing out all the mice that had made it home including their stockpile of acorns, repairing the MPU from battery and MOUSE LEAKAGE I have a functioning machine.  Pulled the DBV apart and had it functioning as well - for a little while anyway!  After a few days away from the machine, when I turned it on it immediately went into an 15-1 Dual Ram error.  Ultimately found if I turned the DBV off at the DIP switch, machine is back up and running.  Still do not have any sound yet but this part is driving me nuts  :200-  Anyone have any suggestion's one what may have cause this?
Thanks in advance for your ideas!! Phil

Welcome to NLG!
The sound failure is common on the 94014 board. Not really sure what is the cause?? Was told once it is an IC chip.

Hi Uniman,
Thanks for your reply!  Will continue to work on the sound issue but I was really curious on the Dual RAM error.  Do you know if that is a common error if the DBV stops working or do I have another "gremlin" still lurking in this poor machine?  This was a basket case machine and I honestly never thought it would run again so now it's just disappointing that I DBV working great for several days before this popped up.  Thanks for your insight!  Phil

Did you try a ram clear after the error? First thought is a failing battery. Not a common error.

Multiple RAM clears - virtually every time I do anything to the machine.  New battery as well as the original leaked on the board which I had to repair several traces.  If the thing hadn't worked for several days in a row i probably would not persue it so much but I saw what this machine can do and really want it back all the way now  :89- !!   Thanks, Phil
