The last Universal progressive system I worked on was using a Con 2, this was a link prog, but I would imagine that you will need a Con 2 just for a stand alone prog. as well.

Molex pin connections at the machine are;

Pin 1  coin in/jackpot         goes to pin 1 of 40 pin connector J1 Con 2
Pin 2  machine select         goes to pin 9 of 40 pin connector J1 Con 2 (for first machine) then pin 10 for second etc. etc. if you run the link.

Recommended machine setting type is M-01

no serial return needed.

Hope this helps

cheers

Sorry, forgot to metion the MS setting, this would either be MS-00 or MS-05

Also pin 3 on the molex is used for a coin in/jackpot for a 2nd prog jackpot. Pin 1 is at the "point" of the 3 pin molex plug

THANK YOU OZZY!

That will help.
But excuse my ignorance, what is a "MS" setting and how does the CON 2 see coin in to increment the jackpot? Ok, I can read! I see coin in/jackpot on same wire. Makes sense. Jackpot signal would hold until reset.
Maybe I need to review a CON 2 manual before I start asking stupid questions.

"MS" is Machine-to-Controller Communication, in other words it's the controller’s protocol
"M"  is the controller configuration for machine type connected to controller for the PSP config.

Coin in signal will be through the pin 1 of the harness from machine to the controller mate.

Get it now! :25-
Thanks again.
I corrected my last post as I reread your posts and saw coin in/jackpot on pin one!
Merry Christmas OZZY!

You wouldn't happen to have any experience on Universal Ultra Series (circ. 1995) would you???
They have several multiple dip settings for progressives such as parity, non-parity, baud rates, etc!

Affraid not mate, would imagine thought that the baud rate would be 9600, but don't hold me to that  :25- :25-
Send me PM if you want Con2 info.

The Universals that I worked on with the progressive were back in 1988-1991, and if I remember corectly, the three wire harness to the molex plug that came out from the MPU card cage were a nice pink colour, all 3 the same   :25- :25- :25- :52- :52-

Well a Con1 will be a lot cheaper than the Con2 and you will not need the gateway, so if that be it you would connect pin 1 of the molex (machine side) to pin 18 of J1 on Con 1 and pin 2 of the (machine molex) to pin 16 of the Con1 J1 connector. Settings in Psp  (M-  &  MS-  I would make the same as previously posted for the Con2 setup.

You just need the dps settings for stand alone prog on the machine side, I do believe it is somewhere between 1 and 8      :72- :72- :72- :72- :72- :72- :72- :72- :72- :72- :72-

not a clue on that one mate, good luck.

Dip settings are different depending on MPU board type, Type 1 or Type 2. Type 2 has a "piggy-back" board plugged into EPROM socket at location 1A. That board is a 8116-SW1(B-D).

On a Type 1 board there are 4 dips at location 7D.
#2 dip is on for progressive environment / off if it is non-progressive. (game will lockup if set for progressive when it is not progressive)
#4 dip is either off or on depending on the game model number(theme).
There are charts in the manual that show you which games require switch #4 to be on or off.
Also depends on what symbols you want to send a jackpot signal.

On a Type 2 board there are the 4 dips at location 7D and 8 more dips on the piggy-back board.
On the 4-pack dips only dips #1 and #2 are used.
#1           #2           Progressive Signal Sent
ON         OFF          Terminal 5 only (on 8116-SUB)
ON          OFF          Terminal 5 + 4
OFF          ON          Terminal 5 + 4 + 3
ON           ON           Non - progressive environment

On the 8 dips located on the piggy-back board you use only #8. If #8 is on, machine will lockup on jackpot hit.
If #8 is OFF, machine will partial pay on jackpot hit.
Again there are charts for jackpot signals to be sent depending on game.

Please note, my machine is a Double Whammy Jackpot and is not listed in the charts!  :37-

Clear as mud?
