Title: Back lite problem
Post by: FORDSBS on May 29, 2013, 10:40:40 PM
My lights do not work on reels. Go to 4.10 to check & all work. Any suggestions where to start looking?
Thanks Ford

What chip set are you using Ford? Some don't support backlit reels

Can you try 363, 597 or 598 SG's? I honestly don't remember if it was the SB or SG chips that decoded the issue :103-

Cowboy, Does a REEL TOUCH use those chips?

Reel touch is where this subject first came up a while back. Been thinking about it some and you might see what other SB chips are available for your title

Talked to a guy & he's running the same chips as me & his lights work.

Are your chips original IGT? Where they work in test mode you may have a bad chip or even an IO card issue causing the problem

Original chips, Switched IO card on side of MPU
When get time maybe switch control behind reels.
What's strange is they work in test

That's what baffles me also. Maybe the cable between the back light control and IO card? MPU?

Checked all wires, swapped controller & wires. Went as far as other reels. No go

Another guy is running the same as me & his works. Maybe I should look into trying chips like you have.

Is your game 60 credit?

Tried different chips, swapped about everything out. All I can think of is put another MPU & motherboard in. :208- :279-

Didn't we have this awhile back? Seems like it was an SG or Version chip?

Sorry for the late post. I know this has been a hot topic for the last couple days, but something came to me all of a sudden!

Throw in some 363s and a GX1 and see what happens....then we can start eliminating until we find the "culprit"....

Tried 363's. Keep getting ram error over & over. Tried GX1 & keep getting Comm error. They do not work W/reel touch.

A multidenom version chip shouldn't be a problem on a reel touch game. I don't have a Tabasco, but I should be able to see what's on my Denver Duck and Bucks Ahoy later tonight. They are both multidenom

I don't think it's the chips. I'm down to back board (mother board) The reels plug into. I have a 504 board. I have an enhanced MPU & mother board I got from Glenn which I'm going to try this week.

WEEEEELL, It's not the motherboard & MPU. Put new enhanced motherboard & MPU in. Same thing. Almost didn't have to worry about it. Came over from work, feed Sally & went @ it. Hurrying put it on table to get inside to work on. Started jacking up & hear a crunch. Almost had a flat top. With topper & candle I only had 1 to 2 inches to roof. It hit but no damage.

Got it working. swapped power supply. Lights work. Only problem 2 stay on.
Thanks Lindam1,Cowboy, Roz & Coors. Extra thanks to Lindam1 for getting me batteries FAST so I could get my Enhanced board up & running.
Ford
PS Have to check bulbs now.

Power supply doesn't explain why they worked in test mode though does it? :103-

Title: Re: Back lite problem

I never thought it was power supply. I swapped EVERYTHING else & harness out several times. Took note supply was warmer than normal so I swapped.

P>S> 2 lights staying on fixed, wrong bulbs

Now all I need is a nice set of reel strips.

That's one for the notebook...but one has to ask:

What occurs differently during test mode than in regular game play? Voltage/Power? Path? Netplex devices not in equation in test mode?

C'mon guys, there has to be a logical reason for this. We're soooo close!!! We know a failing power supply will give wacky errors, so what comes to mind?

Keep in mind, I am not knowledgable on power, electricity, or electronics, (basically anything to do with how stuff that plugs in works), but something doesn't quite add up here. Is it the power supply had one foot in the grave and couldn't power the backlit reels during game play, but could do so during test mode when nothing else was being powered?

Edit: Just for kicks, can we try that power supply in another machine???? If you don't want to Ford, send it my way....

First thing was power supply got hot. When I got it working when in test mode the lights were a lot brighter with new supply than they were with old power supply. As video I posted you can see they would light up but they were not that bright.
Answer is supply was on last leg just would not roll over & die. I hope this will help someone in the future. I know I learned from this.

I hope what you've learned (As I have) that Reel Touch Machine can be a real treat to work on, just wait til you have an issue with the top box P/C. Fun....Fun....Fun!

Have a great day, Ford
