Title: Game King "ask the experts "
Post by: Buzz on June 06, 2013, 03:59:37 PM
Joey  I'm starting a new topic " Ask The Experts "

I'm trying to put a set of Game King Poker software together and have this question. Can I replace the two PXL simms with two PXL eproms ?? ( Of course they are the correct game eproms ) If this will work this is what I would have

(1) Base eprom
(2) Game eproms
(2) PXL eproms
(1) CGF simm
(4) sound eproms

What a cool idea!  I thought the PXL SIMMS had more memory than the PXL EPROMS?  Will the code actually fit?  I think the only downside would be the sounds ... probably still need a sound simm for any slots games mixed on the GK poker set (like Cleo, Rhino, etc.) - the eprom should cover all the poker sounds though.

I'm not the GK expert, so I'm looking forward to following this thread to see how it works out.  :Dave

Why don't you try it? That's what you'd tell me... :96-

Seems to me replacing PXL simms with eproms would not work for several reasons. The most obvious is the pxl simms are either 16 or 8 meg in size whereas the eproms are only 1 meg in size.   The checksum will be another issue.

I actually posted this just to get a little life back in this forum

Jeff a PXL eprom is a M27C801 so it is a 8 MEG. The check sum I'm not sure of because I don't have the files for the PXL simms. One thing that concerned me was I don't think I have ever saw a Game set that used (2) 8 MEG PXL simms. I think we have all seen (2) 16 MEG simms or (1) 16 and (1) 8 MEG. I'm Not even going to talk about where a set uses (3) PXL Simms.

I have the files for
M0000647  ( eprom ) Base chip
G0000697 eprom Game 1 and 2
C0000581 eprom PXL 1 and 2
C0000581 CGF Simm
DSS00068 (4) sound eproms

In looking at the Mississippi Gaming Firmware they list C0000581 PXL 1 and 2 Simms. Seeing as how I have no files on the PXL simms, I substituted eproms for PXL simms and eproms for sound simm and the game works fine. ( It's 100 Play Poker ) If you had have ask me before I put this game together if it would work I would have said I have doubts. Ask Jim ( Silver ferret) I sent it to him and he said it was working good. I thought at one time it had a glitch. My Wife was playing it and I was trying to show her which buttons on the screen to press and play less than 100 hands at a time. The machine froze up much like a computer, the only way I got it back working was power off and back on. Never did get it to screw up again and I tried. Jim told me yesterday that it's working fine at his house.

I've had it on since 0700 hrs this morning and been playing periodically throughout the day and haven't had an issue yet.
I'll keep you posted if I run into something.
So far so good!
Jim

Bits and Bytes. 8 bits = 1 byte.  A 27C801 is a 8 Megabit EPROM, or 1 MegByte.  A PXL SIMM is labeled in MegaBytes, typically 8 or 16. You can tell from the file size in windows too.  A 27C801 EPROM will show a filesize of 1024KB.  1024KB = 1MB.  A 8MB PXL simm file will show a filesize of 8192KB, and a 16MB will be 16384KB.  A bit is designated by a lowercase b and a  byte by a uppercase B.  8Mb = 1MB

So even though they referred to them as PXL SIMMS they had to be EPROMS or you wouldn't have been to fit the 8MB of code for a PXL SIMM into a 8Mb (1MB) EPROM.  Make sense?

No I didn't do any programming of a simm to a eprom, or a eprom to a simm  I had the files for PXL eproms for that game. I just thought it strange the only simm on the board is the CGF. And don't forget Mississippi Gaming list (2) PXL simms for that game, and I'm only using (2) M27C801 eproms.

Buzz,

Email me the numbers for the Base, Game, and other chips and simms and I will try to have my casino friends get the right info for the correct set for you.

Mark  It works that's all I can say. But I'll send you a list right now.  I don't even want to play 100 Hand poker, hell 3 hands is my limit.   don't want to sit in front of a machine and work my brain to death.

Buzz, you are confusing Megabytes with Megabits.  27C801 file size is 1 Megabyte or 8 Megabits, the simms are either 8 Megabytes or 16 Megabytes.  So like I said, the obvious reason is capacity of a 27C801 as compared to a simm.

Okay Buzz, FYI:
It locked up on me once. Machine was on sitting unplayed for about three hours in a cool garage when it did.
Turned it off and back on and it was fine after that.
Thanks, Jim

FYI:
Another lock up. Machine had been on most of the day and being played throughout the day. It locked up and I tried to see what I could do without turning off and back on to clear it. I opened the door and hit the test button and it went to control screen but going back it was still locked up. Eventially had to turn it off but that didn't work either. Opened the door and closed it again and finally it went back to normal.
I don't know if this helps to figure out the issue but it can't hurt.
Thanks, Jim

Jim  haven't forgot about you, I've been up to my ass in alligators and no one will drain the swamp.

Here's what I've came up with and believe me I don't understand what's going on. Just a recap the set I sent you has a original 4 MEG CGF simm C0000581. One of our members sent me a 50 Play set and it also uses a C0000581, also same sound eproms and PXL eproms. Base and game chips are different. BUT as I said the original CGF is a 4 MEG simm, the 50 play CGF simm has the same game number but it's a 8 MEG CGF simm.   :103- :103- I saved the 4 MEG files and have tried 5 or 6 times to program another 4 MEG simm, but it always verifies with 3 or 4 errors.

So right now I've had 100 Play in a machine with a 8 MEG CGF simm for a couple hours and so for it's working OK. I think I'll leave the machine on all weekend and if it doesn't freeze up I'll trade you this complete set for the set you have.

Sounds fine. In Vegas right now and coming back tomorrow. Let me know when you're ready to swap.
Thanks, Jim

I forgot and turned it off last nigh, but it was on for about 9 hours with no problem.  if it doesn't screw up between now and Monday it will be going into the mail.  No hurry to get the other set back to me, I've have enough simms and eproms to make 50 more sets just like it.

Perfect,
I'll let you know when it shows up.
Thanks again, Jim

Jim  It didn't make the mail, it finally messed up. It didn't lock up, but the touch screen was all over the place and the buttons wouldn't do anything. I've check all the check sums on all the chips except the base chip, I'm not sure what it's suppose to be. I can get to a Webb site that will give me the check sums, but the ones for the base chip it gives me a CRC number and I don't know how to convert it to a check sum.

I have to leave home pretty soon and move 3 carnival rides ( 3 trips ) from Las Vegas Race Track back to Calif. I should be back late Thursday night it will be about 1800 miles total driving. If all else fails How about I send you 50 Play until I can get this 100 Play figured out ??

Buzz,
I'm in no hurry. Take care of business and whenever you figure it out we'll do the swap. Meanwhile, I'll use it as is.
Thanks, Jim

Buzz,
I think you may be on to something. I think the glich was maybe due to the touch screen not working. It seems that when the touch screen went goofy, the program would lock up.
I've replaced the touch screen and it's working great and haven't had the issue again.
I'll keep you posted if it locks up with the TS working properly but I think we may be good.
Thanks, Jim
