Title: New Old Game King, couple questions
Post by: hotrod777 on June 11, 2013, 10:21:16 AM
A friend just picked up a game king, some of you may have seen it, Mid-Ohio had it online for sale.  Anyway, I'm going to give it a once over and have a few questions being it kinda seems like a spare-parts machine.
1st the good:
Brand new 17 LCD
Working and updated '12 BV
Working Ticket printer

The Bad
2068-A board with no Simms or piggy backed media board
By the games offered, I assume it GK 3.0
No bet-1 button (I assume it was an igame)
Change button and candle missing.
Most bulbs burned out.
Sound from only left speaker and bass speaker, right speaker unhooked (details below)

So the candle, Bet-1, change button, and bulbs I have covered.  Below are my questions:

1) If I plug in the right speaker, the whole sound system dies completely, no sound or hiss.  I thought it might be a shorted speaker or wire, but it reads the correct 6.3 ohms.  I assume the issue might be that the main board has no media board or anything, so it's mono sound like a 2000 is without a media lite board?  Do you see any issue with jumping the right speaker to the left like they do with bare-bones 2000 machines?  I'm not worried about stereo, just want to make the most out of  what's currently there.

2) Will a key 40 work in this if it 3.0 software?
And, can this older software play different games at the different denom's?  Right now the 12 games are the same across the 6 denoms, can I (for instance) put the 9 slots at 1c, 12 poker at 25c, the Keno's at 50c and BJ at $1?  Or are these older versions just 'pick 12 and play the same 12 across 6 denominations'?

Thanks all  :131-

Congrats on your new machine.  17" LCD is nice!

If this machine has 2 rows of buttons and is 17", then you most likely can pick up a new 3902 board from Buzz (see his ad) with multimedia board and new software as well.

If you just want to get it working, then you can have the right speaker play left speaker sounds by splitting and wiring as you suggested.  But, I think in the menus you can also choose stereo vs. mono ... I used to have that on the 3802, but I can't remember where and I don't have that machine anymore.

I believe that you can indeed change the 12 games per denom.  I haven't come across a game set that I wasn't able to do that.  I would be interested to know what games are available on your set ... I may actually be interested in them.  If you press the White Reset button inside and navigate to the Diagnostics-->System (or something like that), it will display all of the available games.  What games are available?

Finally, it won't hurt to try a key 40 and if that doesn't work, then key 17.  There should be no credits on the machine.

Thanks for the info so far.  Right now I am just trying to give this a tune-up for my buddy as cheaply as possible, but I know down the road a software update might be an option.

Although the bet-1 wires are zipped tied to the harness (factory orginal for sure) the deck doesn't have the second row of buttons or holes.  No harness either, that's why I kinda think this is a spare- parts machine.  The logic tray has multiple sharpie notes written and crossed out, Munsters, Turkey Shoot, and Tea (turkey shoot is intriguing to me, what is that?)

Here is the game list, based on this it looks to be GK3.0:
CARDS/POKER – 14 Games
Jacks or Better Poker
Bonus Poker
Bonus Poker Deluxe
Double Bonus Poker
Double Double Bonus Poker
Triple Bonus Poker Plus
Joker Poker
Deuces Wild Poker
Deuces Wild Bonus Poker
Double Deuces Poker
Loose Deuce Poker
ACE$ Bonus Poker
Shock Wave Poker
Blackjack
SLOTS – 8 Games
Black Rhino Slot
Diamond Mine Slot
Double Bucks Slot
Lion Fish Slot
On the Prowl Slot
Super 8 Line Slot
Super 8 Race Slot
Wild Flower Slot
KENO – 9 Games
Keno
Super Keno
Super Way Keno
4-Card Keno
Caveman Keno
Triple Diamond Keno
Top-Bottom Keno
3-6-9 Way Keno
2-4-6 Way Keno

I'll give the key40 a go tonight, and look for a Stereo option (but I think I'll just have to jump the 2 speakers together)

If anyone else knows for sure about the key40, or any other gossip about this FrankinGameKing please chime in  :244-

I think that's 4.0 that you have there based on the list of games.

I always use a 22 with that set, and a 40 with my 5.x sets.

I'll check tonight the exact games that are available on screen in the setup...
That list came with he machine, a page folded up in the logic tray. and poking around here I thought it looked to be 3.0

I've used a 40 with that older set and it worked fine.  Really, the 40 is just an updated version of the 22.

Bet One button is easy enough to restore.

Turkey Shoot is a 9-reel video i-Game with a couple of bonuses: one where the game re-spins and the turkey eats all of the food items on the reel symbols, which continues until no food items appear; second is free spins and the bull's eye target symbol shoots one of the targets on top revealing a prize (multiplier, credits, etc.).  Country music and turkey gobbles.

Listen to Jason ... he's a GK pro.  ;-)

cool, I've never seen Turkey shoot before.

I have a couple spare buttons/switches to restore the Bet-1 and the Change buttons that are missing, and I have a Candle for it.

Other then Keying in the new game setup, it just needs a few bulbs and a little TLC.

One other question, What is the idea behind the ground posts on each button?  (currently the green wire/ bare connectors and just hanging down in the front glass area... I plan to push them on once I'm done.  Was that just to "bond" the metal spring in the button?  That's the only thing I can think of???   :103-

According to another Sr NLG'r (Knagl), that string of single ground wires to each button are no longer needed on the newer machines.  I have removed mine with no effect.  It's better to either remove the harness or connect it ... just don't leave it hanging loose.  The newer buttons don't even have the connection anymore for the grounds.

Sounds like you'll have this running like new in no time. :89-

Just Got a pic of the board, perhaps this can ID the game version?
The security tape has the numbers obscured, but to the best I can tell:

Base 529
PXL 1&2 351
Game 1&2 788
CG 1&2 351

I found an older thread that mentions a Key 05 for older GK...?

According to my reference, G0000788 is Aces & Faces EZPay. The M0000529, now I don't show it (it could have been retired/replaced by IGT, so its no longer on the list), but I see other M chips with slightly lower numbers that are GK 4.0.

Oh, and Key 22 or 40 will work with a 3902 board.

hmm  :103-... well I'll plug in the Key 40 and see what happens, can't hurt.

Through reading other threads, this might be significant:  The Caveman Keno is a black background.

And, my board is 2068-A, so I think we are stone-age with this one...

I actually have that same game set and I refer to it as 4.3 (but I may be wrong).  Unfortunately, no one on NLG has put together a complete list of Game King versions ... someone started one once, but then he removed it because he was still working on it.

The CG/PXL 351 is common to other GK versions.  The M0000529 base and G0000788 game are really the defining chips here.  The M0000526 and M0000527 base I think is 4.3, so your M0000529 base is in the neighborhood of v4.x as Roz and Jason stated, probably a State variant or multi-denom variant.

Base M0000529
Game 1&2 G0000788
CG 1&2 C0000351
PXL 1&2 C0000351
SND 1&2 SWC00046

btw ... model 2068-A is a 3902 board.  That's just a sticker.  Take a look at the top of the board (when all the writing is upright) and in the center in tiny writing embedded on the board should be ASSY NO 7570390.  Near that should be another sticker with something like ... P/N 75703902 REV B.

I wouldn't call it Stone Age really. The 5.0 isn't much different, and 6.0 is not available to home users yet (at least not plentiful or cheap). The 5.0 graphics are still the same, as well as the sounds. All you need to do is get it up and running and then start shopping for a different software set. The only board that is newer is the 044 board. We have 2 GKs right now, side by side, one with 3902 board and 4.x software, and one with 044 board with 5.0 software, and can't tell a BIT of difference in the games.

M0000529 is GanmeKing 4.0 and can either be used as single denom or Multi denom.

Thanks for all the info so far  :244-

Here's where I am:
Buttons- installed fixed
Bulbs- replaced
Candle- installed
Speaker- jumped and fixed

Problem:
key40 boots up, select 'apply Key chip yes'
Select reboot, it  reboots and says power down and replace prom...
I do that and when I turn it back on I get the standard 'initializing' splash screen and it goes right into the play ready menu...

So, do I need an older Key chip?  A 17 or an 05?
Or am I missing something?

hotrod777  If that's a picture of the machine in question I  just gotta ask you Why are you playing around with a key chip in the first place????  In the picture it looks like the machine is just waiting for you to add some credits.

Right or wrong I don't know but this works for me. Eprom game I use a Key 040, simm game I use a Key 22

I posted this the other day but here it is again,  Had a I Game on a 3902 board, tried clearing with a Key 22 and then a Key 040, I would select all three choices and press the test button. The screen would flash and go right back to the three chooses. The board would not clear, I marked that board "NFG" and installed a different board and everything worked as it should.

Buzz - the reason why he wants to key it is to change the games per denom ... right now, they're all the same for every denom.

Hotrod777 - are there any credits left on the machine?  If not, then I'd try Key 17.

Thank you for all the help and ideas thus far.

I GOT IT!

I was feeling froggy, I have a key 31 and read that it an 'updated' 17.
So I popped it in, got the scrambled purple screen with 2 LED's, swapped chips and up came the key menu!
I got all the slots on at 2c, all 12 poker's at 25c, all keno's at 50c and BJ with a mix at $1 and $5  :244-

Buzz, the 12 games that were on the screen were the same across all 6 denoms.  Once I 'slipped' and told my buddy there's about 30 games in there...  As you could imagine, I had to produce them.

Thanks again NLG  :3-

To wrap things up in case this info will help someone out in the future...

The game list I listed above is correct with 2 exceptions, this set shows 29 games available, not 31.  Missing is On the Prowl, and Loose Deuce.

And, the speaker issue seemed to be a combo of 2 things.  1) the lack of a media board seems to force it to be mono sound (left speaker only) and the right speaker had an intermittent short.  (When I paralleled the 2 together it killed the sound again). After investigating the right speaker with a ohm meter, I found it would short when the wire is wiggled.  Pulling apart the speaker box I found that the riveted on terminal block on the speaker was loose... This let the terminal plate rotate and the back of the plate where the flex copper went to the cone would ground out on the speaker frame at times.  So, I bent and cleared everything up, and it fired right up.  I did have to keep it bridged to the other speaker for it to work (the right speaker lead was still dead, but I assume its the mono sound, OR the shorted speaker burned that channel of the amp out). Not worried about it now, it works and he's happy.

Again, thanks for all the help today.
