Title: 504 bpoard problem, door optics not recognized? Post by: BR549 Auto Sales on June 26, 2013, 01:39:03 AM I have a 504 board that I just replaced the battery on. After powering it up, goes into "ram error" even with the door closed, like it's reading it as being open. I turn the jp reset key 3 times and after pressing the button and closing the door, it won't show the door as being shut. Is there a certain component on the 504 board that is bad that I could replace to resolve the optics issue?
Title: Re: 504 bpoard problem, door optics not recognized? Post by: CVslots on June 26, 2013, 02:09:23 AM Age old problem....we have stacks of them. Seems someone (Fordsbs?) had the same issue and actually resolved it. If you find it, post back, as I'm sure it would help others...
One of those things you think you'll get back to and then never do.... :25- :25- Title: Re: 504 bpoard problem, door optics not recognized? Post by: pbwizard25 on June 26, 2013, 04:55:00 PM I have had luck with doing a full clear and then reset everything. Scott

Title: Re: 504 bpoard problem, door optics not recognized? Post by: BR549 Auto Sales on June 27, 2013, 09:02:57 AM I replaced the green battery and the small round one as well.

Title: Re: 504 bpoard problem, door optics not recognized? Post by: cowboygames on June 27, 2013, 09:39:18 AM Had there been corrosion on the original green battery? The board traces for door optics run below where that battery mounts to the board and corrosion commonly affects optics operation. Another good point to make, I suppose, is that there is no need for the green battery on 500 series boards
Title: Re: 504 bpoard problem, door optics not recognized? Post by: BR549 Auto Sales on June 27, 2013, 10:24:38 AM The door optics and switches are good because I installed a known working board in it and it works fine. As far a corrosion goes, I will check and see.
Thanks Title: Re: 504 bpoard problem, door optics not recognized? Thanks! :89- Title: Re: 504 bpoard problem, door optics not recognized? Post by: qbert on June 27, 2013, 03:13:06 PM Two things I have had happen.
For what ever reason when I have changed some 504 boards in a working machine I have had to adjust the door optics. I do not know why this is but it seems some boards are more touchy than others and have a very small window where the optics will function properly. You may want to try moving the closure handle using very small movements to see if the optics pick up. The second thing if you are getting a closure MB error I have found it's usually the board suffering from corrosion as Cowboy has said above. Just my thoughts hope you find the problem. Rich Title: Re: 504 bpoard problem, door optics not recognized? Post by: CVslots on June 27, 2013, 04:48:30 PM Ok, so I just did some reading on the Door Open error issue...this has been covered multiple times over the years. I guess I just never bothered to search it and see. :25-
At least 9 times out of 10, the problem is caused by either fried traces due to corrosion in the green battery location/area, OR the little doodad in U92. Both U92 and the green battery are both components of the "telltale"/tattletale casino system. The traces can be tested and repaired (30gauge wire and fingernail polish) and U92 can be replaced. Board level repairs are not for everyone, that's for sure. So unless you're in the mood for a date with an oscilloscope, then you're board is toast. REPAIR IT or REPLACE IT and GO ON! Roz :71- Note: The amount of information that has been collected and shared on this forum just blows my mind. If more people used the Search button, we wouldn't have anything to talk about. Just about every problem that's ever occurred with S+ and S2000 has been discussed and solved...many times. :89- Title: Re: 504 bpoard problem, door optics not recognized? Post by: BR549 Auto Sales on June 27, 2013, 05:04:19 PM Well I have no experience with an ocilliscope so I guess I will look to replace, why the all caps at the end of your statement, have I done something wrong? If it's the search button icon issue, when ever I type in a subject, I end ip getting posts that have little or nothing to do with the subject, sorry for the inconvenience, I will search harder before I ask any more questions the next time
Title: Re: 504 bpoard problem, door optics not recognized? Post by: CVslots on June 27, 2013, 05:26:00 PM It was not intended for anyone! :60- Im sorry if it appeared snappy. The caps are just the options.
I feel really stupid for having a stack of boards with this error and never bothering to search it and see what the cause is. 99% of us are guilty of posting a question/problem without doing our homework...no big deal. Roz Title: Re: 504 bpoard problem, door optics not recognized? Post by: qbert on June 27, 2013, 07:24:00 PM Before you change the board I would still try making small moves on the closure handle.
Close it all the way then lift the handle about an 1/8 of an inch and wait a few seconds to see if the board recognizes the optics.Do this till you have moved the handle a half inch or so from fully closed . If it sees it just readjust the optics. Rich Title: Re: 504 bpoard problem, door optics not recognized? Post by: cowboygames on June 27, 2013, 07:27:21 PM No o-scope required Roz, just a multimeter to test those traces for continuity from a point on either side of where they pass under the battery area. Nearest diode, resistor or capacitor on each side provides a good bare spot for meter leads

Nearest diode, resistor or capacitor on each side provides a good bare spot for meter leads Oh, even better! I can handle a multimeter! I may be bugging you when I start messing with them. Problem is, as long as we have replacement boards at hand, it's hard to make time for testing (and hopefully repairing) bad boards. Sounds like fun though! I like doing that kind of stuff. Title: Re: 504 bpoard problem, door optics not recognized? Post by: therockinelvis on July 01, 2013, 10:12:19 PM Hey Cowboy. How about making a video showing us dummies how to do it. Testing and repairing the door optic traces would be great.
