Title: ballys s5500 83F code cant seem to reset Post by: Rkrscott on June 26, 2013, 08:40:45 PM I purchased a ballys s5500 machine it was not working but the lights worked. I bought it. When i got it home i realized it did not work.
through doing some research i saw it had a code 81 so i replaced the battery. after that i tried to do a hard reset by jumpering the j10 pins and holding the pseudo coin and reset buttons. I'm reading about ram clear chips i wondering if i need these or do i have another problem. the code that comes up after trying the hard reset says first ch p then 83f. Any help would be cool. Title: Re: ballys s5500 83F code cant seem to reset Post by: proten on June 26, 2013, 09:38:06 PM You need to do a "Full Clear"
You just did a "Partial Clear" SafeRAM™ Clear Procedure For a Complete, Full, or Partial SafeRAM™ Clear, turn the machine power OFF. Set the jumper J10. Complete - Press and hold the PSEUDO COIN and TEST buttons, then switch power ON. When the message CH C displays in WIN PAID, release the PSEUDO COIN and TEST buttons. The CH C message is followed by CL C. Full - Press and hold the PSEUDO COIN button, then switch power ON. When the message CH F appears in WIN PAID, release the PSEUDO COIN button. The CH F message is followed by CL F. Partial - Switch power ON. The message CH P displays in WIN PAID. The CH P message is followed by CL P. If an error was detected during SafeRAM™ Clear as designated by E C, E F, E P in WIN PAID, repeat the operation. Upon a successful SafeRAM™ Clear, the button and tower lamps flash. Switch power OFF and replace the J10 jumper. Replace MPU Assembly and switch machine power ON. The machine will enter a Reel Calibration procedure whereby the home position is recorded in SafeRAM™. For tilt-free operation it is important that the procedure completes without interruption Title: Re: ballys s5500 83F code cant seem to reset Post by: Rkrscott on June 26, 2013, 09:59:45 PM Thanks

This is what is said on the 83F. 83F SafeRAM Format Error SafeRAM formatting has been lost due to bad RAM IC, a dead battery, or if ROM has changed. (A complete SafeRAM Clear is required.) Title: Re: ballys s5500 83F code cant seem to reset Post by: Rkrscott on June 26, 2013, 10:40:02 PM Ok, Thanks again
So i pushed very hard on the two buttons hard enough to almost break them. same result. I'm pretty sure the buttons are working. here is why. When i push the test button the red light comes on and when i just push the pseudo coin button i noticed i get ch f to come up BUT right back to 83F Check the buttons, We tell every one to push them as hard as you can and then push harder. Is the battery jumper on the MPU installed? Some folks remove the battery jumper when storing the MPU since the Bally machine have a tendency to eat batteries. :208- :208- Haaa, tkrozleski beat me to it by 54 seconds..... yes the jumper is on both pins. Im wondering if the the main chips are bad. take in to consideration. I have not seen this unit work yet. Is the battery voltage good? Battery connections to board are good?
