Title: PE Draw Poker Monitor Color Issues
Post by: jamesleady on March 25, 2009, 04:53:17 PM
Hey guys,

I was brought a PE Draw poker to install a new monitor in. I installed a brand new wells gardner d7700 monitor. The picture is sharp and clear and the sync is locked in. The problem is the colors are inverted. In scouring the internet for some help on this I found somewhere a reference to the video signal possibly being a negative signal. I would assume this is the issue. I hooked my pattern generator to the monitor and it displayed all colors correctly. The reference I found said that the PE board could be configured to change the polarity of the signal. I have not found any references on how to do this. Is there a simple dip switch setting on the board or is there an inverter board available? My first time working on a PE. My specialty is arcade games. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!!

PS If i go into the PE menu and go to the background color screen adjustment all colors are displayed properly. R,G and B screens are correct. It is when i put the machine in game mode that the colors invert. Again, negative signal issue? I do not have a scope so I can't check.

Here is the follow up.
I did use the inverter board from Mike's Arcade and I also installed an additional power supply to supply the 12vdc to the inverter board. I transferred the D7700 wells gardner to the old ceronix frame. it fit perfectly. I did have to route the snyc wires around the inverter board as the monitor would not grab the sync through the inverter board. So.. I fed the rgb and ground through the inverter board and then from the inverter board out to the monitor. I wired the sync wires directly to the monitor. The picture quality is awesome and the sync locked right in.

There is no magic dip switch.
There was another arcade guy that did something similar.
His boss gave him a PE+ to fix for one of his buddies.
He ended up building a inline Inverter. I think he took a 6 channel chip with a bread board and used 3 of the lines then wrapped the whole thing in shrink tube.
He posted some info on this but it was lost when the old site died so I don't have chip numbers etc.
I eventually want to upgrade mine to a LCD so I am very interested in the details of how to do this.
His contact info was rcoonjr@buckeye-express.com
Please post back with more info as it develops.
Thanks.

yes unfortunately the color signals are inverted.
you can buy a color inverter from one of the video game
guys for like $25.  here's an example:

you can also make your own, all you need is a 7404 chip
and a power source.
