Title: Loud Barcrest Fan, MPU-5 Dip Switch
Post by: MarkInAz on March 27, 2009, 03:41:22 AM
My new Little Devil is a cool game but that cooling fan in the top is LOUD and it runs all the time.  It should have a temp switch or something on it, tied to the top MPU I'd think.

Any ideas what the two banks of DIP switchs do on the MPU-5 in the top box? It would be nice if there was an option to thematically control that fan.  It would be nice to know what other little goodies those switchs control too.  :-)

Thanks in advance.

Hello... In regards to the fan noise. Try taking it out ( only 4 screws) and cleaning all the gook on the inside of the fan and then spray some wd40 in the center baring. When I first got my Barcrest games ; sometimes the fan war loud also and this helped alot.  Can't help you on the dip switches. My 1st  thought is DON'T TOUCH THEM  !!!!    Good luck,  Bill

that fan needs to run all the time, unless you want to pay for another mpu board down the line let it run,  just clean it out or  replace it

Hello!

It seems a MPU5 manual magically appeared in the Submit a new File section - it looks like it's for a specific Genesis game, but it talks about the DIPS and think it may help you out...take a look :)

Agreed.  If cleaning it doesn't get its sound down to an acceptable level, consider buying a new muffin fan of the same size and voltage and whatnot -- a new fan should be a lot quieter than one that was running in a casino for years.

I love this site, its so magical   :-)

But "Don’t Touch Them", how can I resist.  If I break it that will be another excuse to get out of house work this weekend.

Thanks guys.
