I accidentally posted in ham radio section. My machine I just got is not lighting up on the reel fluorescent which looks pretty new and I can't seem to remove it by twisting it how does it come out The 7 front bulbs on the reel glass are not working either. I am thinking of replacing the starters to see if that works. The coin switch is sticking also. I have gotten a suggestion from Amechanic which I'm going to try and see if that keeps if from getting stuck.

You were right Gary. The coin switch needed adjusting. I replaced one of the reel glass lamps with a bulb that I know is good I took it from my continental and it does not light up in this machine?

Try a different start for the bulb. You could also check the two wiring harness door plugs.. It could be possible the light ballast is bad.

Are you talking about the starter? Is that the same as ballast?

Nm I see the ballast is different than the starter

Ballast in the left is warm to the touch. The one on the right (inside door) is cold. Also the ballasts inside the cabinet. The top one is warm and the bottom one is not

You can swap your starters around to help diagnose the problems.  Use the known working one in the other sockets.  Ballasts don't go bad very often.

The reel fluorescent light was working fine and after I cleaned the contacts and let it sit for 3 hrs it does not work now ahhh.
The other lights are still not turning on either I checked the door harness plugs and they look good and connected.

The starters only operate the fluorescents correct? Like I said there are four in this machine and the continental has 3

Does the 742 have 2 fluorescents in the belly glass?

I fixed the light problem tonight l! One of the wires on the harness was burnt up inside the plug the blue wire. I cut it from the plugs and re connected it. Fixed it all up. Very pleased now with this machine everything works

Me too thanks for the help it was nice talking to you yesterday. I went to one of the two chrome shops in town to get an estimate on doing my continental door pieces and it was$750! I'm going to find another door or machine for way less than that. I thought he was going to gold plate it for that price

Thats way out of line. I would keep looking. There are other places that the members here could tell you about that you can send the parts off to. I used to use one in Alabama for the mechanical slot parts I would get plated and they were a lot less than 750.

Cool I'm going to go to the other shop out here soon and get a quote and also keep looking for the parts and trying to clean some of these up. I could have gotten a converted machine and used the parts off that for $200 and it looked good

Thanks man i I spoke with them the other day and the wife told me they didn't have any em parts right now well door pieces that is but ill see if they have any spare parts. I just bed blasted a few pieces and one is really bad the strip with lines in it that goes beneath the belly glass is all pitted out.

Ya, Re-chrome on cast aluminum is expensive. It's a 4 step process with aluminum. I got some parts done a while back and was shocked.
Check with Barry Fox, I think he uses a chrome shop in Miami.

Cool thanks I think I can find alot of the parts used including the door piece you have which you are right impossible to find. I would be fine with parts that look good where as some of mine are really bad looking.

Other than Foxslots I do not know many who sell Bally EM parts. There are some local  slot repair sites such as LA Slots in Redondo Beach what sell the parts and a few local repair guys.

John at San diego Slots has a good variety of parts.

Squires and Corrie, in San Mateo, sells  Bally EM parts, but their prices are litterally out of this world.

Your best bet is to buy old EM's and keep them for parts.

That sounds like the reality if it unfortunately :/( thanks for the heads up! I went and looked at this guys machine that had a nice front door but ended up being a 1075 that was locked and no key. It didn't work either and could see the reels were bent up and who knows what else. The ad said 350 obo so I thought I would give it a look it has a slot stand too. He said it was 500 firm when I got there which after seeing it I wasn't interested it is the wider body and the Fatman told me to only get the the 3 digit numbered machines I thought if it was usable for parts and I could trade or get it for a cheap price i would get it.

I've had good luck back here finding these older Ballys. I have run an ad on Craigslist under want old Bally slots working or not. I've just picked up a nice complete 873 five line quarter machine for $150.. I usually can get non working ones for $75-$100 parts complete. The trick is to try to be patent. You have to be firm with your prices, because if the machines don't sell in a week or two, the sellers usually comes around. Keep looking you'll find a parts machine. Go back and offer $200 for the wide body and stand since you can't open it to look inside, I would...

I actually just posted a CL ad about a hr ago! That's a good ideal. I'm not in a big hurry I'm happy I have this machine working and all. In the meantime until I find the parts I need I'm going to clean this one up and work with what I got for now. I don't know if the guy will budge on the machine but its worth a shot I don't really want it right now I'm more interested in this one i haven't looked up any info on the 1075 yet and don't know if its computerized or anything? I do want the nice stand he has though

The glass front stands are nice and go for a couple hundred. If your looking at the Bally machines the tags that say E -1000 or E-2000 Eseries have circuit boards. I wish I would have been smarter two yrs ago when I parted out some machines to keep door parts. They just take up so much room.

This stand doesn't have a glass front but has a lock on the front. Nothing that great but a stand made for a slot machine.  I wish you had parts left too! Haha

Most of my spare parts are for the Eseries, but the door parts would have worked for both.

I really need an extruded trim, coin cup and guard plate, trim panel right door side and a glass retainer assembly. Those parts are the ones that are in the worst shape.

I had the coin cup and the guard plate re-chromed at a place in Fullerton. Total was about $85 for both.

Right on that sounds decent. I got some chrome polish and rust remover and sim steel wool and tried it on the reel frame. It seems to be working good. The right side door panel has the chip around the lock and the extruding plate is eaten up and coin Cupid bead blasted because it was so rusty and peeling I am not sure if what I am going to do with it one of the bolts on it broke off also it was so corroded. I could get chrome powder coating done but don't know if I like the way it looks or would affect the vintage look of the machine versus polishing the original chrome
