Title: Burning PLCC Sigma 1700 chips Post by: cfh on March 31, 2009, 04:58:44 PM The Sigma uv1700 uses PLCC chips instead of EPROMs for the
roms at U51 and U52. If you own a Sigma 1700, at some point you will probably need to burn a PLCC. The PLCC does not look like an EPROM, but essentially they are a 4meg EPROM. The blanks (PLCC 27c040 or 27c4001, 32 pin) can be bought from Mouser.com just search on "PLCC 27c040", part number 511-M27C4001-10C. Cost is about $3 each. In order to burn the PLCC, you need a PLCC adaptor. With this PLCC-to-32pinDIP tool, a regular EPROM programmer can burn the PLCC. No special software is needed. (I'm using an old Needham PB-10 programmer without any problems). You can buy the adaptor for about $25 on ebay. Here's the one i got: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360098687008 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360098687008) Cheaper versions are available, but this particular one has an easy in/easy out PLCC socket, so that's why i spent a little more money than the $10 elcheapo variants.
