Title: Install Jackpot Bell - need wiring diagram
Post by: Italianguy63 on September 04, 2013, 06:00:11 AM
Hello again!  Great site BTW!

I am picking up a jackpot bell for my S+.  It does not look like the wiring harness is intact from the PO.  There are 2 harness that I don't know what they are, but I don't think they are for the bell.  Anyway-- I can't seem to find what I am looking for.  Can someone reference a schematic or diagram of the bell wiring?  Pictures work be swell!  I need to know where the bell wires connect to the MPU.  Thanks!  MC

I actually got home and looked at it.  The plug is there, but the clear piece of plastic actually has a flat covering the socket.  Is that normal?  I assume you cut it off and put in a harness.  Is the harness something that someone might have for sale, or do I need to fabricate one?  Suggestions?  MC

Yes I did cut off the plastic piece.  Most casino's never put the bells on them, and the plastic keeps metal shavings from coins from falling in a shorting something.  I did buy the harness, but it was at least 6 years ago.  Put a WTB to see if someone has one for sale.  It is easy enough to make one though it is only 2 wires and you can buy all the parts from mouser.  If you are going to do that I can look up the connector part numbers and post them here if you can' figure it out.

Rick-- could I bother you to look up the connectors for me?  I live near Orlando, FL and we have this wonderful place called "Skycraft."  It started life as a NASA electronics surplus house.  Anyway, if I knew what I was looking for, I can probably find the connectors for a couple bucks.  I have the ability to fabricate this stuff.  You'll get to know me-- I tinker with all kinds of stuff.  MC

The small black connector to mainboard is a molex # 50-57-9402, you will need two socket pins for it molex # 16-02-0102
The white connector to the bell is a molex #03-06-1023, you will need two socket pins for it molex # 02-06-1103

Ordered the parts......  :294-

Actually got extras.  I can make up some extra cables...  I hope the part #'s are good!  *fingers crossed*

Part numbers are good, I had the parts in the mouser bags, and then checked the site to make sure they were still the same part number.

Got the parts in.  Made up one cable.  Will put it in tonight and report back.  Got the bell mounted over the weekend.  Hopefully, I can figure out the programming.  Because the parts were so cheap, I bought enough to make up 9 more cables if anyone is interested.  MC

Only 50% --  :8-

Bottom plug was right at MPU.  Top plug for 24v Jenkins bell I got is too small.  I will make a trip to the electronics store and see if I can get lucky finding a bigger 2 pin Molex.  If not, I will just cut off both plugs and solder/heatshrink the wires.

Swapped out the EPROM.  Works, but getting "67" error now.  Thought I had it cleared, but it came back.  I still don't have my MPU battery yet, so I won't dig into this yet.  I will change out the battery and do it all at once.  Hopefully won't need a clear chip 'cause I haven't bought one yet.

You got the wrong bell then.  The original IGT bell has that plug in it. Though I think the voltage is correct. Will have to check my bell when I get home.

I think it is a 2000 bell.  The price was right.  I can fix it.  I may look you up in a few days about the "67" error if I can't resolve it if you don't mind.  MC

When you change SS chips you get that error.  Open door.  Turn machine off and then on, and it should clear it.  If you don't have the MPU battery, it can't save the status change.  You should, while you are at it, just get a spare MPU board while you can still get some.  I have 4 backup boards for my 2 machines, to give you an idea.  The bell is definitely 24 volts.

Common error codes and their resolutions are listed in the FAQs, and also linked to in a sticky post in this sub-forum.

Did not have the "67" code this a.m..  I know my battery is about 10 years old and probably WEAK.  That is why I ordered another.  It still has not gotten here, but one it does and I pop it in (I installed a battery holder on the MPU last time).  I will see what happens.  Rick that is a great idea on getting a spare MPU.  I will work on that.   MC

Wish my battery would arrive already.  Machine being tempermental.

67 error came back.  Cleared it.  Got 61 error cleared it to 61 1 error.  Cleared it (and lost my credits!).

Then the bill validator started acting up.  Eating bills, and not pushing them to the cash can.  Finally got everything working again.  Machine just being PISSY.  Ran out of time, and never got to work on the bell wiring as I hoped.

My machine is psychotic.  Today, I changed out the battery, remounted, and resoldered the battery holder (with the battery out).  Put it back together-- NO CODES.  Nada!  What gives with that?  Anyway, just have to get to the bell wiring now, and I can finish off this thread!  Maybe this weekend.   MC

Machine 100%!  Fixed the EPROM issue, fixed the DBV transport, replaced the CMOS battery, added a bell, and cool new illuminated bill graphics.  Life is good.   :95-

I'm wanting a video poker machine if I could find one at the right price!  My wife would kill me.

Do I like I do.  Buy her something, then you buy your poker machine, fair is fair.  My upcoming bluebird spinner cost me a $3,000 designer watch for her.  But I am milking it for a bally alpha as well.
