Title: Bally 6000 free play SNAFU encountered

When the battery is changed in a Bally pro 6000 board the first thing that comes up after the reels do their dance is the time - date option.

To exit this setup you have to press the CHANGE button to get to a 50 code.

Someone is modifying the machines with a small  board that gives free coin in.

They are connecting this board to the CHANGE switch.

We have encountered two customers in less than a week that can't get their machine to work because the CHANGE switch has been disconnected and the free coin in circuit is connected to it.

It is extremely difficult to explain to a customer how to rewire their switch so that they can progress beyond the time - date setup.

Unless someone has a solution?

One solution we have used is to tell them to strip some insulation off of the green/white change wire and use a wire to jumper this briefly to the ground of the button panel switches.

Another solution is to send them a replacement U16 chip with a push button switch soldered to the two legs (ground and change) in order to give the machine a change signal to clear the setup by pressing the push button.

Someone didn't think this free play solution out before putting it into machines and selling it to unsuspecting (read - clueless) customers.

For example, what happens when the battery gets replaced and the change button is needed for initialization.

Correction ---- black/yellow wire. Green/white was on another machine I was working on.

So, if they had re-wired it to include the original function of the change switch, all would be roses?

Your change light would just flash on and off when adding credits, but still it would all work well?

I don't know about the flashing part but if they would have added a push button connected from the change wire to logic ground, even inside the machine, because it is only needed once during initial setup after a battery change, things would have worked out just fine.

some free play kits that I've encountered, sound like the ones you explained, but when you hold the button a little longer, it triggers the switch.  The ones I currently use don't connect to the buttons.

The close up photo the customer sent me of the board showed a small 8 pin MCU and two resistors.

The wire that normally goes to the change switch was no where to be found.
