Title: Bally Alpha S-9000 Player Tracker
Post by: Ron (r273) on September 23, 2013, 12:21:20 PM
Has anyone tried to program this type of player tracker? I was wondering if
you could program the EPROM like the Bally 250 or is it run by the back casino
software.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Ron

Thats a CDS unit and as far as I know they use standard LCD's. Dont recall ever seeing instructions for those but if You have the gear read the eprom from the control board and see if You can find text blocks.
Alternatively you can dump the controller and use a arduino or another micro to drive the display.
I posted some code here for amicus controllers http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=24900.0.

I was able to change the message Ron.  I even did it for someone here on NLG.

Thanks TZtech and idesign! I will try to read the chip and see. I have changed a Bally 250 chip to read  my
casino name with a message, so hopefully it will work on this one.

Well the AM29F040B only read large groups of 00 and 10 only. :37-

The label on the chip reads SIN II VER. 11.53K-2  CASINO DATA SYSTEMS.

I think you are doing the wrong chip.   I will look in the morning and see which one it is.

Ron, most of those boards can be discarded along with the associated jumble of wires that go with them.  The board that has the chip you are looking for is under that blue daughter card in your photo.  It's a 28 pin eprom.  See my photo below. It's the eprom without a label it.  That board is the only part of all the mess of boards that's needed along with the power supply and the cable that goes from the board to the display.

Ok I took it out of the machine and stripped all the extra harnesses away. I took a picture of mine and the two
chips are different. The one with the label is a AM27C040 and the next to it without a label reads
Samsung 049, KGT 1008C2E-0870, 132177E Korea.

I tried reading both but no luck. (You can enlarge the photo)

Ron (r273)

Edit: The one with the label is a AM29F040B not AM27C040.

See my post #4. I looked thru all of it and did not see anything else but large groups of 00 and 10.
I will run thru it again.

But you said it was a AM29F040B, not a 27C040

Sorry I got the numbers mixed up. It is the AM29F040B with the label over it. There is no 27C040.
I read the AM29FO40B with the label over it and now it reads all 00s.

Ron, I just sent you my file.  You can edit it and burn it to a 27C040.
