Title: Odd backlit reels...
Post by: CVslots on September 27, 2013, 02:06:11 PM
Ok, I know just the other day I said we've never had a 3 reel game come through with LED reels....I opened up a game Weds and just about had a heart attack! I see a black I/O card in the door and black backlit boxes peeking out from behind the strips!  :267-

After I was done with my LED Reel Happy Dance (which, BTW, goes something like this:  :110- :141- :110- :126- :117- :126-), I tear off the reel strip to find......incandescent bulbs!!!!!  :37- :8- :37-

I looked at the WWG has on eBay, and mine don't look like that at all...so now I'm confused as to what the heck the black ones are!  :103-

With a 2nd I/O in the door like a 5 reel game or I-Game, but no LEDs, what the heck? Were there different set-ups for LED reels? Maybe the casino was just cheap and changed to incandescent bulbs when the LEDs went out?  :103-

I'm still not convinced that those reels are 3 reel variety, they may be the 4 reel setup.

The ones on e-bay by WWG, I'm not convinced those are the 3 reel variety, I think those are 4 reel variety, narrower than the 3 reel types.

Oh, ok...well, whatever mine are, I'm going to make note of the harness, BL control board, etc. Maybe we can learn something!

I have some LED bulbs, should I put them in? I'll probably fry something, I better not...

If they were LED backit they would have the little boards in the reels with the LEDs mounted on them.

I have a 4 reel set of LED backlit reels if you want to see a photo of one one them I can post it to compare.

Roz, how about posting a photo of what yours look like?

The set I got from Roger that I mentioned in the post a few days ago came from him originally with 2 reels for a 3 reel machine and one for a 4 reel machine. He sent me a replacement for the wrong size one and all the reels he had came from slant top machines. The guy I sold them to in Texas claimed to have an Anything But Six machine that used them stock from IGT. I've never seen a complete machine with the reels in it, but they do exist in both 3 and 4 reel sizes

They are not LEDs as they have no boards in the reels, but I would like to know what the heck they are. I've never seen any like this, so maybe they were just a funky revision that didnt last long.

Are the harness plugs where the reels plug in opaque like standard reels or black like the LED reels use?

Those are covers to limit the backlighting from spilling over to the next symbol.  They are needed because you have the super times pay game in the machine where the reel strips have those 2X3X4X symbols bunched together.  They clip on the backlit devices, similar to the ones that are white and are used on the 5 reels games.

Be careful though Roz, that machine could be infected with...

FRANKENREELS!

The less dangerous ones from Hollywood though, not the ones from Minnesota :72-  How do we not have a good Frankenstein emoticon?

Looks like its a multi line game.....9 lines maybe.  I see the multi line display in your photo.....What kind of bet deck is in that machine?

That's it, 9 line game with dual row button deck! Damn, I'm feeling stupid now. That thought never even entered this empty mind!

Thanks for your help guys! I gotta get back to parting out machines. If I don't hit my quota by the time Darrell gets home my pay will get docked!  :30- :30-
