Title: Bally 809-W Help Post by: milkman22 on September 30, 2013, 07:27:31 PM So I am trying to get this machine to a point where it can move from the garage bench to the game room. The game seems to play great after some TLC and lube. I can't seem to find this variation of the 809 anywhere. The main problem I am having now is the payout glass and the belly glass are peeling badly. The belly I can find a substitute but the payout is much lower then anything I can find. What kind of options do I have or am I looking for something that wasn't common? Also the reels strips are faded and have many blank spots. All of the replacement ones have alot more icons on them. Again, Not common or do people just make their own some how. I love the mechanics of this machine so I don't want to let it go to the trash heap but I am somewhat new to slots.

If I were you I would scan the glass and do a touch up of the areas that are peeling in a graphics program. Then have some color added where it has faded. A little research on-line and you can fine the original colors for the Golden Gate Casino logo. If your not good with a graphics program, we have a member here that has been making custom glass kits. I'm sure he would do something like this for you. Then print it out on some good pure white bond paper and have it sandwiched between two layers if 1/8 inch glass. Title: Re: Bally 809-W Help Post by: milkman22 on September 30, 2013, 08:57:58 PM Oh wow! I am starting to get excited. I love the bottom glass but was even prepared to have to figure out something else. I am great with anything electronic or mechanical.... Once I got it running good I started getting bummed cause cosmetically I am lost. How would find this member? This machine is well documented and talked about but I haven't been able to find anything close to this payout table and reel set.

There's aslo a martini glass one I've seen that I don't have. Here's a pic. Thanks, Jim Title: Re: Bally 809-W Help Post by: milkman22 on October 01, 2013, 04:06:47 AM Man that is awesome! Gives me a good frame of reference for what colors mine should be. Any one know why there are so few icons on my reels? I haven't seen anything similar.
Title: Re: Bally 809-W Help Post by: SilverFerret on October 01, 2013, 04:18:53 AM The reels are correct. It's called a jackpot machine where you win fewer but bigger wins than the fruit machines that have a variety of payouts.
In my pic, the machine on the right is a fruit machine and the left is a jackpot style. Thanks, Jim Title: Re: Bally 809-W Help Post by: milkman22 on October 01, 2013, 04:33:38 AM Makes me realize that mine is in rough condition cosmetically but I can now see what I am working towards. You guys are awesome!

I don't quite remember which member. Maybe start a new thread asking that question and he might see it and respond or maybe others have that info as well. According to his info, my 809 was originally for the Gold Dust Reno. Fun to find out. Good luck on the restoration. Pics are always nice. Would like to see the condition of the whole machine. Also while I'm thinking about it, watch ebay to find the top payout glass. Don't recall seeing that exact one but I've seen many over the years posted. Good luck again, Jim Title: Re: Bally 809-W Help Post by: Jeff99 on October 01, 2013, 08:45:45 PM An interesting pinball restoration site might help you. http://www.pinrepair.com/restore/index1.htm#touch

Title: Re: Bally 809-W Help Post by: David B Fowler on October 03, 2013, 01:22:12 AM If you can get someone who has this machine and willing to take the glass out and have it scanned, you can have it printed to overhead a projector gel or plastic sheet. Then you can sandwich it between two pieces of plexi or glass so it will fit in the frame. I have done this and it helps with the light illumination of the graphics.
