Title: Dead power supplies.. Can they be fixed? 3Y power supply CP-9826
Post by: Harvs on October 04, 2013, 08:06:26 PM
I have read a few posts about easy fixes on power supplies but unsure what part needs to be changed. I have had 4 power supplies go in the past few weeks. Different machines, work one day, dead the next. They are all 3Y Power Technology supplies, CP-9826's. (Pic)

These machines were stored for a while, I can see 1 or 2 taking a sh!t, but this is out of control. Any help is appreciated.

looks like you have bloated caps on the right side of the supply as pictured. Hard to tell for sure. If the tops of the caps aren't nice and flat and smooth they are probably bad or headed that way. Not the same for the big one on the left as it has a plastic cover on it, but I would be surprised if it was bad

Rob- Caps are flat, nothing looks fried or anything. Does that white fuse go bad on these often?

Buzz- I shall check out that thread.

Thanks

Not sure Harv, the only one I had go bad on me about melted the board and was very obviously bad. Put a meter across it and see if that's the problem

Seeing as how I haven't had a BAD power supply since the days of the Bally 5500s  I think if  had four go out in just a few days I would test the power coming from the pole to my house.

Ok, I will grab a ladder and climb up there with some duct tape in a bit. I just have to find my chainmail body suit and helmet, I wouldn't want to fall and get hurt ya know..

*Found it!   I will post my findings, or the news will. Thanks Buzz!

Well, after reading posts about fixing these power supplies I found an easy way for me to fix the prob.. I bought a few spares. -I have a few that I think are broke if anyone wants them.

Thanks for the advice though guys. Unfortunately I turn to all thumbs when attempting to fix probs like this.
