Title: Bally E-1088-56 Door open code won't clear
Post by: Steve-o on October 14, 2013, 01:32:50 AM
Hi All,
I've got a Bally E-1088-56 that I am trying to get running.  I get a '50' error code (door open), but I can't get the code to clear.  Both of the switches seem to okay according to my multimeter, and closing the door and attempting to play has no effect.
The specific code I'm getting is 50.0.03

  Any ideas or pointers?

 Thanks in advance,

  Steve.  Oh.

Adjust the switch that's behind the hinge, closer to the hinge.

Can you post a pic of the hinge switch for further help?

I adjusted the hinge switch and it seems to be working now.  Here are photos of the the hinge switch and the door switch as well.  It looks to me as though the door switch lever has been bent oddly.  It doesn't appear to engage with anything inside the cabinet when the door closes, but I guess it must if the alarm is now cleared.  Huh.

Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it!    :259-

I believe the door switch is supposed to be contacting a cam on the door lock. It senses if the door lock is open or closed. I have similar switches on my E2000 machines, and have removed the switches and connected the wiring together (closed) rather than deal with the switch. Supposed to light the candle and alert the casino operator if a door is opened, far as I can tell.

I can't see any part of the lock mechanism that would touch the switch actuator.
Sounds like a good idea, just jumpering them out entirely.

  Thanks for the response.

It might have been removed. It would be a cam, about 2 inches in diameter, that would attach to the lock fulcrum that releases the door latch. I have gotten machines where the cam was missing for whatever reason. If you look at the switch location, it's near the door lock fulcrum. Switch contacts open when door lock is open, close when it's latched.

Hmm, nothing like that on this machine.  Looks like the switch lever was bent around so that it now actuates up against part of the reel pawl.  Whatever works, I guess.
  Next project:  Jumper wires.

Must be unique with the 1000 series machines. They are slightly different than the 2000's that I'm accustomed to . There should be two switches at the corner of the reel mechanism, which determine when the reels are parked and the mechanism is ready for a pull. But I don't think the switch you have pictured is there. The switch I'm talking about would be here:

Yep, that's right where my switch is, too, but no actuator-ish thing on the door.  Maybe there once was, or maybe it's only on other machines.

Nice machine there, very clean.  Mine still smells like casino smoke, yech.

That door switch is not needed for home use. You can leave it as is or take it out and tie the wires together.

^what Tkrozleski says. I think the switch would light one of the tower lights, if your machine has it. I have taken all of mine out, along with the latch locking relay, and the piece of slotted steel covering each latch hole. I believe that part is a strengthener to prevent prying the door open.

50 03 usually means a problem with a bad P2 prom - not a door open issue.   If your tower white light goes off when door closed - then the door switch(s) are working.
