Title: igt s+ problems
Post by: annette2yan on November 03, 2013, 10:16:52 PM
Ok, another machine guys, igt s+ ok i soldered the power wires to mother board got the credit panal to light up got to 61 1 code but the reset key doesnt do anything to clear it, only the reel #1 get stiff,  other two are free, i know the reset key works because i put in another mpu to see if i could get it to do something, so now what?

I ram cleared it, like i said got to 61 1 code, its like door optics arent working, but its a new set.

Please help somebody

Thanks

Both machines are slant tops

When you get to the [61-1] code, close the door and turn the reset key once.
You should either get another code on the display panel
                            or
the machine will go into the boot up mode & ready itself for game play.

Nope the reset key doesnt work with the board thats in it, i did ram clear it did its stuff, random numbers to 999
Then i put game chip back in then got 61 then test button and then 61 1 code, but it wont go away

After you get the [61-1] code, are you closing the door first and THEN turning the reset key?
The door optics or cherry switch on the door need to be facing each other before turning the reset key to boot up the machine.

Another thing, does the door have eye optics or a cherry switch?
Some chips won't allow you to get out of the [61-1] loop unless eye optics are installed.
I found that out when I made my door optics bypass wire setup.
What SP chip is installed?
Same SP chip for both slant top machines?
PLus, all 3 reels should be "stiff"....if not, check the reel harnesses and top two fuses.
Top Fuse=6A
Middle Fuse=8A
Bottom Fuse=6A
All fuses should be the quick blow type ONLY!
(The wire filament inside the fuse glass tube will be very thin. )

I put new optics on door, i made sure all doors where shut,
The fuses, i will have to get the right kind i ran out on this other machine thats going nuts
The sp chips i have no idea they have stickers on them, i will get that info later
Thank you, i will be in touch

On an S+ machine, the color of the two wires on the door emitter optic should be black and red.
The color of the two wires on the door cabinet reciever optic should be white and red.
I've put these in backwards sometimes myself... just something to check.
Make certain that they are lined up as perfectly as possible.
Buzz has found an excellent way to get them lined up...he uses some masking tape on the cabinet and a magic marker.

While you're at it, check the Reset key switch and wiring.
A hand-held multimeter with the unit set onto "continuity" mode is great for checking wiring for breaks.

Mainly, it sounds like one of your door your optics are not working correctly.
                                      or
Your ram chip is stuck in the dreaded [61-1] "Loop".

The [61-1] Loop is when you close the door and turn the Reset key and the numbers on the reel glass display go back to [61].
I'm not sure if that's the sequence of your display at the moment or not.

However, you've already performed a Clear and that should have gotten rid of a "stuck" data byte.
The Clear chip sets all the data bytes on the RAM and motherboard chip to zero's or one's...I forget which.
Doesn't matter tho, either way, the Clear procedure should have broken the "Loop".

Another thing you could try is a swap of the RAM chip from the other MPU board onto this MPU.
Your present RAM chip could be faulty.
If that doesn't work, then it's possible the motherboard chip is faulty.

Swap one thing at a time to rule out parts, you've got some work to do but
that's the fun of our hobby! - to figure out how to make it work!  :89-

Pictured below is lining up an S+ upright cabinet door optics using masking tape.
Pretty simple trick to get them optics looking at each other!
I'm not quite sure how you line a slant door optics tho?
I've never had a slant machine!...>>>

Its been a very long time since i have seen a S+ slant - There may be some cherry switches in series with the door optics.
Check the top glass , bottom door and BV cage for any switches wired in series - hopefully somebody with A S+ slant can confirm exact locations.
