Title: igt pe+ monitor not working Post by: cafoose on November 07, 2013, 03:44:35 PM I have an igt slant top video poker machine with a Ceronix 1492 monitor. squiggly lines went all over the monitor then it went blank and has not come back on since. It started smelling like something got hot but nothing seems to look fried. What can I do next to figure this out?
Title: Re: igt pe+ monitor not working Post by: turniphead on November 07, 2013, 05:52:24 PM that's a pretty old CRT but Ceronix is solid so you can probably fix it!! :71- light zig-zag lines in the background of a normal picture is the retrace lines; usually you start seeing those when one or more electrolytic capacitors is getting weak. good rule of thumb when working on CRT monitors is to replace every electrolytic cap you have a replacement for when you have the board out on your bench. they are fairly inexpensive usually and are a high failure component so if you change them now it may save you from having a failure sooner down the road. ;)
also if you smelt burnt electronics :98- :50- (it's a pretty distinct stench) :146- :86- but don't see anything obvious then your issue may be worse than just some bad caps. i'm sure Mike has tons of info on the 1492 in his repair logs... http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?board=21.0 post up pics of the boards front and back might help. look around the flyback, the power in area and the neck board as well for burnt resistors and also i'd test diodes and transistors if you have a meter. g/l!! :3- :89- Title: Re: igt pe+ monitor not working Post by: Amachanic on November 07, 2013, 09:12:58 PM Sounds like the flyback is bad.. They stink when they go.. You should try to contact Ceronix. I've heard that they will do repairs fairly reasonable too.

Title: Re: igt pe+ monitor not working Post by: Amachanic on November 08, 2013, 05:52:47 PM I've seen those 1492 Ceronix burn a hole in them at that coil before. I would check with Ceronix for a replacement. We were buy new 1942 for around $100 last year where I worked. They might want to see your old one so they know they are sending out the correct one. They were setup different for depending on the application.

i'm sure you could source the component(s) you want to replace elsewhere. i don't have a BOM or schematic of the 1492 but i'm sure it's not too hard to find considering how old it is and the fact that it was a gaming monitor; most slot techs are very sharing. :3- Title: Re: igt pe+ monitor not working Post by: cafoose on November 18, 2013, 04:50:09 PM I just got a rebuilt circuit board today from Ceronix for $59.10 including shipping and installed it. The machine runs perfectly now! I would like to thank everyone for their help. :244-
