Title: GK 39 to 44 upgrade with existing parts
Post by: hotrod777 on November 18, 2013, 07:26:38 PM
Question for the GK brains.

I have a GK running 6.0 that is set up and working fine.  I have another machine at a relatives house running 4.0.
Both machine are the same hardware, 17" LCD, coin less, BV and Printer installed and working.

My question:  If I was to buy a 44 board, backplane and software 6.X, could I take the backplane and MY tray over to the 4.0 machine and do a 'quick upgrade'?  Would the machine boot and be good to go?  Or do you foresee errors getting thrown? Do devices have unique ID's that'll cause problems??

It would be much easier to do it this way being the machine is off-location...  I would then on my own time to set up the new software and not be pressed by time and being 'watched'... And especially with it taking an hour to clear and set up 12 games across 6 denoms to get most of the poker games active.

Thanks for any insight

Disclosure: I haven't converted a 3902 to a 044 yet.

Having wrote that, I will say that bringing your tray is a great idea.  You should also bring your EEPROM off of your backlane too.  The board and the EEPROM together hold all of the configuration.

However, you will still get at least one error.  The BV CRC will need to be cleared, which is easily done with the White Test button and navigating to the BV-->Clear CRC.  As long as everything else is the same, I suspect it will work?

You will probably also have to adjust and recalibrate the monitor, but after that you should be fine.
