What printer are you using?  If you are using ithaca's whenever I got this error it was because there was no paper, or the printer wasn't all the way into the caddy.

I have a WMS 550 with a printer error that will not clear. Even after setting the printer setting to none I still get printer error. Have swapped entire printer, cleared machine with no help. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

It's an Ithica850. It has plenty of paper and I have pushed the printer as hard as I can into the caddy. Will check again in the A.M. Thanks for the suggestion

ah, if you have a set of eproms that is printer based, you must use a printer, you cannot disable it.  If you want to use no printer and coins, then you must have an eprom set that does coins.  Also newer versions of the firmware in these printers don't work with certain version of the legacy games.

Could also be the IC on the comm board on the chassis where the other side of the printer ribbon cable plugs in
