Title: IGT S+ overpay
Post by: FOXSSLOTS1 on April 17, 2009, 02:37:01 PM
I have a S+ (10x 3 c) -  pays 7 coins (3100 error) ONLY on reel1  -   BV cycles during payout - sounds like a short but where would it be (reel 1 itself) - or the CPU?   Machines pays correctly on reel 2 and reel 3.

Barry    did you run the paytable test?? that will tel you if the strips are correct and if the strips match the payout table on the glass.

3100  code means over pay,  usually a hopper brake problem.  does it drift and pay extra coins doing a hopper test??

not the hopper - hopper test works fine - not the paytable - 7 coin payout for 6 and 3100 error = overpay.   Only on reel 1 not reel 2 or 3.  some kind of short - haven't started swapping out parts - just thought someone may have had this problem - save me some time. thanks,

I'm assuming you mean that payouts of 1 cherry on the leftmost reel cause this problem?  Does it happen with any other winning combo that involves the 1st reel (i.e. 3 any bars).  It might be a bad reel eprom resulting in a corrupted paytable lookup.  Try changing kit to something else to see if the problem goes away.  Or re-burn current reel chip to another eprom.

The hopper test might be fine but did you count the coins ??
The most common cause of a overpay is that your hopper brake has failed.

If you pull your hopper out you will see that the back of your hopper has a lever and it is kept in place by a spring.
When the Spring breaks or goes missing there is nothing physical to stop the hopper and it will over pay by 1 or 2 coins.

It won't cost you anything to see if it is missing.

I have in the past stolen a spring from an old bic pen and cut to size.

The only reason I didn't suspect the brake, is that he says that a 6 coin payout based on cherries landing on reels 2 or 3 paid correctly.

correct ONLY on reel 1 cherry!!  PLUS - BV does a "recycle/reload".   something is shorting - obviously reel 1 - but is it the cpu or the can a bad reel cause a short?

you can interchange the reels and eliminate that pretty easy,  did you check that all the connections on the mother board are right?  meaning that all the connectors are in the right places?

Does the bill validator work correctly?

I don't think it's the reel as it's just a stepper, does it happen in non-wins as well?  To me it looks like a paytable issue.  I'd try another eprom to make sure it's not that.  It's easy and fast to eliminate that as a cause
