Title: SlotOwners Magazine - For iPhone, iPad, Android & PDF Post by: angryninjas on December 12, 2013, 11:59:44 AM Hey guys,
I didn’t want to say anything until it got approved by both Apple and Google Play Android markets, but I got the last approval this morning, and SlotOwners Magazine is officially available in both stores! It’s a monthly digital magazine for home slot owners, and discusses all aspects of the hobby, including maintenance, troubleshooting, how to’s, user submissions and articles, tech tips, classifieds, and all other things slot related. Unlike the other trade magazines out there, this one focus’s on the home slot owner, not the big casinos and manufacturers. I also want to mention that this magazine wouldn’t be possible without the help of many other people, including several people on this forum. I also want to give a special thanks to member Harvs, Joey, (the owner of NLG), and Chris from Slot Machines LTD for their extra efforts involved in putting this together. Expect to see big things from each of them, and other well known names around here, in upcoming issues. Also, because of the extra effort and warm welcome of the magazine from NLG itself, I want to donate the proceeds of the first yearly subscription fee value to NLG, so know that your subscription fees are being put to good use. It’s a great way to ensure a donation to the site, while receiving a yearly 12 month subscription to a great magazine. We’ll see how things go, but I would like to do this each and every month if possible. We have to pay a certain amount to the publisher of the magazine for maintaining it on the mobile marketplaces. No worries if you can’t do a yearly subscription, it’s available in regular monthly subscription price as well, and you can cancel the subscription any time you wish. Just get the first issue at regular price (the app itself is free), and it will give you subscription options from there, other than the yearly one listed on the front page, if you only want to go month to month. So without further ado, we are officially announcing… (http://www.angryninjas.com/1-files/slotmag1.png) (http://www.angryninjas.com/1-files/iphone.png) (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id789734009?mt=8) (http://www.angryninjas.com/1-files/android.png) (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.presspadapp.slotownersmagazine) (http://www.angryninjas.com/1-files/pdf.png) (http://angryninjas.com/index.php/custom-slot-machines/slotowners-magazine) UPDATE: PDF version option just added. Just click the PDF button above, and at the bottom of the page choose your PDF subscription and go through the paypal process. You'll get your first issue emailed to you, and be added to the monthly distribution list for future issues to be sent to your email in PDF format. Great for reading on a computer or laptop. If you’d like to submit an article to be included in the next issue, just let me know. We’d love to have it. It can be on any topic you wish… how to’s, showing off your man cave, whatever. We are also giving away free classified ads for the next issue, so if you’ve got something that you want to sell that could use a little free advertising, send me a pic and 100 words or less, with public contact info (email, phone, whatever you are comfortable with), and we’ll get it in the next issue. If for some reason you are having trouble finding the magazine by clicking the links above, you can search the Google Play store or the Apple App Store (or Apple’s Newsstand app) for SlotOwners Magazine, but I think the above buttons should work for most. You can also check out the first few sample pages by clicking the above link buttons for whichever platform you prefer. And :259- for the donations that are soon to come!
You're very welcome for the help, I'm sure you'd do the same for me! Harvs Title: Re: SlotOwners Magazine - For iPhone, iPad & Android Post by: DoubleZero on December 12, 2013, 01:19:18 PM Cool! Excited to see where this goes. Good luck!!

Title: Re: SlotOwners Magazine - For iPhone, iPad & Android Post by: shortrackskater on December 12, 2013, 04:12:10 PM I may be the only one with this question...
First...this magazine looks AMAZING. BUT... I don't have an iphone, ipad, android, ordroid, maybedroid. I will never have ianythings or droidanythings. I have an "old" (maybe 15 months) HP 2000 laptop and an even older desktop at home. These "devices" are much EASIER to read than a tiny rectangular glowing box, where the font size is 4. I like pages to be the size of actual old fashioned paper pages. How can I get this for the going-the-way-of-the-dodo Windows computer? :96- Title: Re: SlotOwners Magazine - For iPhone, iPad & Android Post by: angryninjas on December 12, 2013, 04:14:54 PM I was actually thinking about this when waiting for the app store approvals, whether or not there would be an interest in a regular .PDF version. If so, I can setup a subscription link through Paypal and keep a mailing list for .PDF distribution each month when the new issue comes out. Let me know if you'd be interested in that, and if so, I'll see what I can setup with Paypal.
Title: Re: SlotOwners Magazine - For iPhone, iPad & Android Post by: TheAirBalancer on December 12, 2013, 07:13:11 PM You're not alone shortrackskater. I am also without a suitable mobile device and would be interested in a version I could read on my MacBook laptop.
Title: Re: SlotOwners Magazine - For iPhone, iPad & Android Post by: angryninjas on December 12, 2013, 07:15:29 PM Ok, sounds like I'll need to setup something. Which subscription methods you you prefer, monthly or yearly? Yearly is a bit cheaper, as you can see from the android and iphone links above. Pricing would be the same for PDF versions. Send me a PM with your preference and I'll set something up in paypal.
Title: Re: SlotOwners Magazine - For iPhone, iPad & Android Post by: TheAirBalancer on December 12, 2013, 07:37:18 PM PM sent. Looks like a great magazine.
Title: Re: SlotOwners Magazine - For iPhone, iPad & Android Post by: mvco on December 13, 2013, 12:36:56 AM I too need the PDF version that would just be sent to my email box each month. Count me in once you work this out.
Title: Re: SlotOwners Magazine - For iPhone, iPad & Android Post by: angryninjas on December 13, 2013, 12:45:05 AM No prob, send me a pm with your email address and I can send you a paypal invoice
Title: Re: SlotOwners Magazine - For iPhone, iPad & Android Post by: slotdeals on December 13, 2013, 12:55:31 AM Dave,
Really excited to work on this with you. Been brainstorming all night from the drive home to the time at the gym. Already have 2 pages written… brings me back to my old college days. I plan on having everything together for you by next weekend. Thanks again for opportunity . Hope a lot of our members join Chris Title: Re: SlotOwners Magazine - For iPhone, iPad & Android Post by: DoubleZero on December 13, 2013, 12:36:20 PM Got mine! Great reading with enjoyable articles that strike a nice balance for the newbie and the experienced owners. Looking forward to the next!
Title: Re: SlotOwners Magazine - For iPhone, iPad & Android Post by: angryninjas on December 13, 2013, 12:41:03 PM Glad to hear it. Looking forward to feedback. That was one obstacle we faced when putting it together was the variety of skill level by the various readers, and how to make it so that it was enjoyed by the inexperienced novice as well as the experienced multi-slot owners at the same time. It's actually pretty hard to find a balance without overwhelming some and making it too simple for others.

It's actually pretty hard to find a balance without overwhelming some and making it too simple for others. Here's my two cents. :72- You might make a section for "Newbies" or "First Time Owners" and place simple tasks that we all know but new comers might not. A good example would be Rick's FAQ. I would, of course stay away from technical stuff like programing Mikohn, touch screens and the like. Another thought, you could make more sections such as Technical, Technician's, Advanced Owners, etc. :71- Ron (r273) Title: Re: SlotOwners Magazine - For iPhone, iPad Android & PDF Post by: MikeCamp on December 13, 2013, 01:24:09 PM I read this last night and was very pleased with the content as well. Good reading, great tips, great layout! Keep them coming. A possible article that might be good for all is a historical generation type of list of the machines. IE: S, S+, S2000, ... and a description of the changes from one platform to the next and caviares to home user. I'm not familiar with Bally at all but was thinking of picking up a Bally machine but since I don't know much about them I have held off on buying one, a article like that would be a great tool.
Keep up the great work, Mike Title: Re: SlotOwners Magazine - For iPhone, iPad Android & PDF Post by: angryninjas on December 13, 2013, 01:26:47 PM Good points Ron. Currently we try to include articles for novice and advanced users, and basically let the reader choose which ones apply to them... more or less using the table of contents as their guide. Also, on technical articles, like the door optic bypass for example, we expalin it in simple step-by-step format, so the novice users can follow along and don't feel lost. We have a lot of new technical articles coming up in the next issue, actually written by current day slot techs, so we'll see if we need to change the layout to accomodate the variety of skill sets that our readers have, or if we can incorporate that into the existing article layout.

Keep up the great work, Mike Sounds great. One article we were kicking around for the next issue was about how the industry has been changing, and this might actually be a fantastic tie in, or even re-work the article completely to focus more on this model-timeline style theme. I like it! I'm in the same boat as you Mike... I've only owned IGT and thought about picking up a Bally the next time around, but don't really know enough about them. This sounds like a great article to have done by one of our contributing slot techs. I'll see what I can do :) Great idea! Title: Re: SlotOwners Magazine - For iPhone, iPad, Android & PDF Post by: angryninjas on December 13, 2013, 03:38:35 PM PDF Subscription option just added to the original post, for all of those that have requested it.
Title: Re: SlotOwners Magazine - For iPhone, iPad, Android & PDF Post by: SolidSilver on December 13, 2013, 06:11:35 PM Just signed up for the PDF version moments ago; can't wait to see what it looks like.
I too am an antique (make that a "collectable"); I will print out the PDF copies in color, bind them, then read & store them in my bookcases with the hardbounds. Thanks for a great new source of interest & fun! Title: Re: SlotOwners Magazine - For iPhone, iPad, Android & PDF Post by: angryninjas on December 13, 2013, 06:13:26 PM Thanks for the support :) The first issue should already be in your inbox.
Collectable... I like that. Gonna have to use it, haha. Title: Re: SlotOwners Magazine - For iPhone, iPad, Android & PDF Post by: mvco on December 13, 2013, 10:21:58 PM Got my first PDF issue, printing now. Looks fantastic!

Title: Re: SlotOwners Magazine - For iPhone, iPad, Android & PDF Post by: Nurbo on December 14, 2013, 06:09:28 AM Hi,
Very good application and great initiative to engage in the creation of a magazine on slot machines .... our passion. In France, for just 1 year a passionate has been publishing a magazine on pinball (my other passion), while the last magazine on this topic stored back almost 20 years ago. A sacred challenge that pays for the moment, even though it does not really make a profit, but do not lose money either. In any case, this first issue of Owners Slot is well done, the layout is "professional" and nice item. Good luck and urges the February issue ! :244- :244- :244- Title: Re: SlotOwners Magazine - For iPhone, iPad, Android & PDF Post by: Ron (r273) on December 14, 2013, 03:35:30 PM Got my first issue too.
Awesome! Ron (r273) Title: Re: SlotOwners Magazine - For iPhone, iPad, Android & PDF Post by: Krazoj10 on December 14, 2013, 05:07:08 PM Nice first edition... Looking forward to the next one. :89-
Title: Re: SlotOwners Magazine - For iPhone, iPad, Android & PDF Post by: angryninjas on December 15, 2013, 01:51:43 PM Thanks everybody. Glad you like it. We're already working on the next issue, and have some great ideas for it. Don't forget, we,re giving away free classifieds for the next issue, so if you're trying to sell something that could use a little free publicity, let us know
Title: Re: SlotOwners Magazine - For iPhone, iPad, Android & PDF Post by: chuck300x11 on December 15, 2013, 03:36:59 PM Purchased jan issue yesterday. Other than a few spelling issues, the magazine was fantastic. One question, how long does the content stay available on Apple newsstand? :3- :3- :3-
Title: Re: SlotOwners Magazine - For iPhone, iPad, Android & PDF Post by: angryninjas on December 15, 2013, 03:45:20 PM Yes, we did catch a few spelling issues after it was submitted as well.
The issues remain on Apple Newsstand indefinitely. Even if you were to delete an issue from your downloaded copies, all you have to do is go back into it and hit "restore purchases". Apple never deletes the back issues from their server. If the magazine is still there 10 years from now, Apple will have 120 issues stored in Newsstand. Title: Re: SlotOwners Magazine - For iPhone, iPad, Android & PDF Post by: wla357 on December 18, 2013, 04:21:43 PM dave, tried the paypal link for single issue, but it took me to my paypal and was trying to charge the full year price. maybe needs a fix? :)
Title: Re: SlotOwners Magazine - For iPhone, iPad, Android & PDF Post by: angryninjas on December 18, 2013, 04:25:39 PM Hey Bill,
Strange, let me look into it... replying to your other PM now. Title: Re: SlotOwners Magazine - For iPhone, iPad, Android & PDF Post by: angryninjas on December 18, 2013, 04:35:40 PM Thats really weird. Verified the code on the paypal end, and even regenerated it... seems to work perfectly. But the minute I paste it into an HTML document and uploa it, it seems to make both selections a 1 year plan.
Until I can get it straightened out, anyone that just wants a single issue, you can paypal $5.99 to sales@angryninjas.com and I'll email it over to you. Keep in mind this won't get you a monthly subscription, so if you want future issues, you'll need to do that for each one when it comes out. Hopefully I'll have it fixed by then though. Title: Re: SlotOwners Magazine - For iPhone, iPad, Android & PDF Post by: angryninjas on December 19, 2013, 05:39:51 PM Just checked and double checked the button code and everything is correct. I've submitted a support ticket to Paypal to find out why it's not allowing the monthly subscription option. The yearly option is working fine. I'll have to wait and see what Paypal has to say on this.
Title: Re: SlotOwners Magazine - For iPhone, iPad, Android & PDF Post by: TheAirBalancer on December 20, 2013, 12:05:24 AM Just wanted to say I really enjoyed my first issue. I am involved in another hobby that I consider as esoteric as home slot ownership. Magazines like this (and NLG too!) are what keep enthusiasts active and informed, and this is a good thing. :3-
Title: Re: SlotOwners Magazine - For iPhone, iPad, Android & PDF Post by: angryninjas on December 20, 2013, 02:12:09 PM Awesome AirBalancer! I completely agree. Just out of curiosity, what is your other hobby?
Title: Re: SlotOwners Magazine - For iPhone, iPad, Android & PDF Post by: angryninjas on December 20, 2013, 02:14:15 PM Ok, the monthly subscription button has been fixed. We had to create a separate button for the yearly and monthly subscriptions... even Paypal tech support was stumped why the drop down version wasn't working. Anyways, it's up and working if anyone prefers to subscribe monthly instead of yearly. You can choose whichever best suits you now here:
SlotOwners Magazine (http://angryninjas.com/index.php/custom-slot-machines/slotowners-magazine) (The button to the PDF subscriptions in the original post has been modified, so you can click that one too, either way) Title: Re: SlotOwners Magazine - For iPhone, iPad, Android & PDF Post by: TheAirBalancer on December 21, 2013, 12:41:14 AM Awesome AirBalancer! I completely agree. Just out of curiosity, what is your other hobby? I collect error coins, coins not correctly struck at the Mint. There are a small number of us within the realm of coin collecting and hobbyists write articles for hobby magazines and discuss errors on boards similar to this one so we can share knowledge about how they are made. Here is an example of an error Kennedy half dollar. It is double struck, meaning it was struck normally once then struck again off center about 50%. Yeah, I've got a few bills that were folded over the plate during printing and are printed at like a 45 degree angle on the paper.
Oh, and btw, now that the magazine has an official home, it's official page has a comments section, and right now there aren't any comments, so if anyone wants to express their opinion about the magazine (good or bad), feel free to pop some comments into the page so that other people that don't see it from NLG get a good idea of what they are getting. Comments section is at the bottom of the page here: SlotOwners Magazine (http://angryninjas.com/index.php/custom-slot-machines/slotowners-magazine) Title: Re: SlotOwners Magazine - For iPhone, iPad, Android & PDF Post by: angryninjas on December 28, 2013, 07:45:32 PM Hey Cal,
You asked us a question on the website about PDF subscriptions, but I think there was a typo in your email address, and the email we sent back to you bounced back as undeliverable. Send me a PM if you see this and I'll answer your question. Thanks! -Dave |
