Title: S-2000 502 Board Will Not Accept New Battery ??? Post by: erbs on December 16, 2013, 11:38:38 PM S-2000 machine w/502 board. No green battery. Machine works fine with battery @ 2.80v Went to change battery to coin battery w/ holder 3.22v and I get no display and red led on mpu blinks. Put old battery back in and machine works fine. Strange, any thoughts on this one.

I have always replaced the original yellow battery with holder and coin battery and never had any problems. I did try another holder, same problem.

Title: Re: S-2000 502 Board Will Not Accept New Battery ??? Post by: erbs on December 17, 2013, 12:26:40 AM I do have the + and - correct. I just tried another coin battery that was 2.84 and got the same results. So I do not think it has anything to do with the extra volts. For some reason the board doesn't like the coin battery I guess???
Title: Re: S-2000 502 Board Will Not Accept New Battery ??? Post by: Buzz on December 17, 2013, 12:42:14 AM You must have a multimeter, remove the board from the tray and take a reading on the back side of the board. ( I think you will get a better reading on the back side ) And NO the added voltage will not harm anything, I use the old stock of 3.6 V battery's left over from the S+ days.

Title: Re: S-2000 502 Board Will Not Accept New Battery ??? Post by: erbs on December 17, 2013, 12:54:51 AM I did have a used yellow battery on another board that read 3.20. So I soldered it in and the machine works. I tried 2 different new battery holders and batteries still would not work. These are the same holders and Panasonic batteries that I always used. The board must not like coin batteries???
Title: Re: S-2000 502 Board Will Not Accept New Battery ??? Post by: cowboygames on December 17, 2013, 01:10:31 AM Can't be the battery, it will have to be a polarity issue. Other than how they are attached there is no difference between a clip in and solder in battery. Have you checked your battery holder for a short? Could be bad
Title: Re: S-2000 502 Board Will Not Accept New Battery ??? Post by: tkrozleski on December 17, 2013, 01:14:06 AM can you post a pic of the non working coin battery and holder mounted on the board?
Title: Re: S-2000 502 Board Will Not Accept New Battery ??? Post by: erbs on December 17, 2013, 01:20:53 AM I already have the other yellow battery soldered in. I have replaced many original yellow batteries with the holder and coin battery and this is the 1st time running into this. If I get time in the next day or so I may try to figure this out by putting in a 3rd holder and checking volts on the back of the board as Buss mentioned. Thanks and K+ to all for your input, I will let you know what I find out. Ed

Title: Re: S-2000 502 Board Will Not Accept New Battery ??? Post by: erbs on December 17, 2013, 11:06:33 PM Got it working with the coin battery. Apparently the coin battery wasn't making contact. I use a thicker battery br2325 w/ 560ma so I have to bend the + tab to accommodate for the thicker battery and I didn't have it bent enough. :25- :25- Thanks again for the help.

Title: Re: S-2000 502 Board Will Not Accept New Battery ??? Post by: Jim on December 18, 2013, 06:29:39 PM well now you got me scratching my head :103-
I use a BR2330 COIN cell battery 3volt, 255mah, 23.0 x3.0 mm, fits that holder like a glove. :89- you said you use a BR2325 WHICH IS A 3 volt, 165mah, 23.0 x2.5mm should be loose in that holder :25- a CR2354 IS a 3 volt, 560mah, 23.0 x 5.4 mm should have to force it in to that holder. :30- Jim :5- Title: Re: S-2000 502 Board Will Not Accept New Battery ??? Post by: erbs on December 18, 2013, 06:52:08 PM To use the CR2354 you need to bend the + tab so that the battery goes in straight and not end up on an angle. I use a small needle nose. I use these because of the higher mah so they last longer. The one in question I hadn't bent the tab enough so it wasn't making contact.
CORRECTION, A few posts back I posted the size as br should have been cr. |
