Here I go asking more questions. (but you guys make learning fun!)
How do I go about resetting the mechanical meters. I would like to zero them out, to track how much I play the machine.
Math was never my best subject  :97-  While I guess i don't have a use for the 3rd  coin drop meter, the first two coin in/out
would be nice. They are functioning OK, except that the coin in, also clicks over for each awarded credit played.  Is that normal or should that be on another meter?. I only have 3 instead of 6 meters, so maybe I could move the wiring to track just number of games played to the 3rd meter.

The coin-in meter tracks ALL coins AND OR credits being played...
The coin-out meter of course runs when you get a coin paid out into the tray.
I use a resettable electronic meter which actually has two meters in one (coin-in and coin-out)
You can get those type of meters from an arcade type of online store...
They're electronically driven so they don't make that tick-tick-tick noise.
However, in the interests of keeping your machine original,
the easy way is to buy a set of new mechanical meters and install them.
I heard somewhere that new meters actually start at 999,990? or 999,900?
I may be wrong on this because I've never actually seen new meters...lol...
The hard way to reset your mechanical meters is to take all the guts out...
that means completely dis-assembling the individual meters and their components.
I tried two of them, believe me, it's not easy to do...
The numbered gear sprockets inside are small as heck and
MUST be lined up to mesh with another set of gear sprockets that are even smaller :37- perfectly,  in order to work.
Plus the numbered (0-9) gear sprockets rotate so very easily on its shaft and
requires you to adhere a piece of scotch tape to hold the numbers in place
while you assemble the other smaller sprockets w/shaft.
You need steady hands, a magnifying light, and a very good set angled tweezers and
patience like you wouldn't believe or you'll end up throwing all the little pieces as far away into the bushes as you can...
My suggestion, go buy a brand new set of meters...it's WAY easier... :96-

I did not realize that this would be that involved a process.  I may just buy a couple of electronic
meters.  The factory ones are 24vdc correct? Who might have new originals for sale?

Not precisely. The coin-out meter counts ALL coins out, played or cashed out.

Long-winded stat-like response: :96-  :31-

Just remember that when you first put a bill into the DBV, it is counted as dropped money, since the bills are in the drop just like the coins that fall into the bucket in the stand. The credits from the inserted bill have not been wagered or won yet, so they do not register as coin-in OR out, and if you simply cash them out the meters will do nothing. (Think of it as being the same as a slot tech having scooped the coins from the hopper and dropped them into the bucket in the stand. No money changed hands, but it got moved from the hopper to the drop.) As you wash them through the machine (play them), the coin-in meter will record each credit played, just as if you had inserted the coin at that time for credit. However, if you cash out, the UNBET credits will still not be counted as coin out.

e.g., you put a $20 into a quarter machine and receive 80 credits. At that point the coin-drop will register 80 credits, coin-in and out: nothing. You bet 40 credits - two at a time, and win 10. As you wager each set of two coins, the coin-in meter will register them. When you cash out your 50 credits (the coin-in meter now being up 40), 50 coins will drop into the tray, but the coin-out meter will register only 10.

Once you have washed your 80 coins completely, each play of two credits will increment BOTH the coin-out and coin-in meters by two. At that point you will know that you've washed your money and are playing with your winnings. If you cash out at that point, all of the cashed out coins will be counted.

As a side note, most machines have a built-in limit of $3000 in purchased credits to avoid money laundering. The three-thousand-dollar limit has to do with the filing of a form called an SAR (suspicious activity report). Unlike the CTR (currency transaction report), the SAR must be secretive: it is against the law for the finks - er, the bank or casino - to tell you that they are filling one out. Don't think that because you structure your cash transactions below $10k that you aren't being spied on! 

Anywhoo, once the credits are washed (wagered), the player can insert more up to the limit. It doesn't matter whether you win, lose, or push on your bets, just so long as the money was wagered. So if you insert $3000 and then bet $1000 on video poker hands and end up with the same $3000 by winning some hands, you will be able to insert another $1000 and have $4000 in credits on the machine.
