Found some conflicting info on loading WMS Wizard of Oz. I have a BB1 with quite a few games that work great. Have not been able to load Wizard of Oz b/c I lack the Progressive hardware. Just wondering if its worth tracking down the hardware or not. Anyone had any luck loading Wizard of Oz as a standalone?

I'm considering adding another machine, possibly BB2, but since this is one of my wife's favorite games we may look at a new machine that has the hardware needed to play this game, if it exists. Just wanted to get an expert opinion on if the progressive hardware is worth the investment or a lost cause.

Wizard of Oz is a BB2 game.  It will run on a BB1 cabinet with a CPUNXT2 mpu box.

Thanks Rick that is just what I was looking for. Im actually looking for a BB2 machine. If I could ask one more question. Do you have any recomendations on specific hardware I should be looking for on a new BB2 other than the mpu unit.

I have a Bluebird1 Video Slot that is currently running Fairy's Fortune.

I also have lots of of Compact Flash cards with other games.

How do you know what kind of board it is running???

There is a guy on E-Bay selling a set of Wizard of OZ cards for $300.00 which I think is way too much but I would like to also get Wizard of OZ running on my machine.

Mine is physically labeled as a CPUNXT1 on the cpu box inside tne cabinet. I also believe it tells you what board you have while you are loading new games

Where on the CPU Box would it say CPUNXT????

I cannot find it anywhere on the CPU. Also I rebooted the machine and I did not see anything that said CPUNXT anywhere on the screen as it booted up.

Im sure this is not consistent for all but when I open my cabinet it is labeled just above the lock that opens the cpu panel where you load the O.S and game. Its a sticker on the outside of the CPU box but not suprised if it is not there on your machine.

Someone with more expertise could speak to this but the only other way I can tell is after doing a ram clear and loading a new game it will come up on screen While loading. Not sure if it does it for every newly installed game but I have seen it on some. I do not see it when I am booting an "already loaded" game.

Again someone can correct me on this but when I first boot during the memory count it will show your processor and speed. Mine is a pentium III 700Mhz which are the specs for the cpunxt1. I believe the nxt2 is a p4 so you may be able to tell from that but I dont know specifics of the nxt2.

If you look inside your machine, a CPUNXT2 cpubox has a hard drive in it.  Also there's usually a sticker that says CPUNXT2 on it.  Also when you boot up, on the black screen with the bios information, if it does not scan for hard drives, you have a CPUNXT1 bbu.  This is a picture of a CPUNXT 2 I/O panel.  If it has a DVI-D connector and a VGA connector, then you have a CPUNXT2 board.  Also a picture of the insides of the CPUNXT2 box.

If you buy a CPUNXT2 box, you can put it inside you bb1 cabinet (this combination is known as a BBU 1.5 system).  It will only run certain CPUNXT2 titles that will work on the 4:3 narrow screen used on BB1 cabinets.  You could, replace it with the wider screen monitors, but you will need two monitors as BB2 cabinets are all dual screen as it no longer uses glass for the topbox graphics.  It costs around $1K for both monitors and a lot of elbow grease and dremmel tool work to fit both screens into the cabinets that were not designed to hold these wider screens,  it is possible though, I know of some people who have done it. a BB2 cabinet is really expensive right now, but I imagine that with the CPUNXT3 and BBU3 cabinets out now, it's just a matter of time before you can your hands on a BB2 cabinet for under $5k.

Wizard of Oz (and I'm talking about the one with the bonus games that have the flying monkeys and the one where you pick emeralds and if you are right, you advance to the castle), will run on this conversion provided you have a "fooler board" or are running a dual screen CPUNXT 1 game, as the tse tse board will also act as a fooler board.  A fooler board is basically a led driver board used in this game to run the little bonus lights that select the prize you win, they are hard to come by, and you are probably most likely to find a spare tse tse board and run that instead.
