I just thought I would throw this out there in case anyone comes along looking for a solution to the error message backward.   The manual has little info to help.  It turned out the reluctor ring fell off the 2nd reel.  You couldn't really see it to well until the reels were removed since it was on reel 2.  The ring is only to go on one way so make sure to get it in the correct position before gluing it back on permanently.
