Title: error 61 can't clear Post by: htrowrod on January 04, 2014, 07:26:46 AM I have a early 90's slant top model(IGT S Plus)that I can't reset. I reset and got the 61-1 code but when I turn the reset key once ,it will hold for a min. and then goes back 61?
I used the clear and set chip to restore the cmos/eprom. When I restarted the machine it went back to 61 I cleared that and it went to 61-1 closed the door reset the jackpot key now it has gone back to 61. Thanks in advance for reading this and any help I may get... Bruce Title: Re: error 61 can't clear Post by: knagl on January 04, 2014, 09:53:30 AM Try the clear chip again. The "61 loop" that you're in (61, 61-1, back to 61, repeat) is one of the rare times that you need to use a clear chip on an S+.
Did the clear chip behave as expected, that is, the numbers ran up in the display windows ending at "999"? Make sure you're following a good set of instructions for the clear chip. The ones on this page (http://www.ohiogaming.com/replacementinstructions.htm) (starting on line 63 near the bottom of the page) are good. Once you've done the clear chip procedure, reinstall your GAME chip and see if you can't get past the 61-1 (don't worry about the SET chip just yet -- that only enables the bill validator, and can be done at any time). Ensure that you're doing the following: - Power on, observe 61 on the machine. - Press and hold the self test button for a few seconds. It should turn to 61-1 (and ding if your speaker is working). - Fully close and latch ALL doors on the machine. - Turn and release the jackpot reset keyswitch once. Title: Re: error 61 can't clear Post by: htrowrod on January 06, 2014, 07:02:02 AM I have a pair of clear/set chips coming tomorrow or Tuesday. I will let everyone know if the new clear chip fixes this probably. I will also post a picture of my slant top.

Let me recap... My machine sat for a while not plugged in. I turned it on and it wouldn't take any coins. They kept just falling through. Well, I did the obvious, I fooled with the coin comparator(no good). I unplugged it and let it sit. Now about 18 months later I decide to get it working again. I have two service manuals for it, so I start going through troubleshooting.Sure enough I notice a #12 error(dead battery) I order a battery, it comes in and the #12 error turns into a #61 error. I read the manual and it tells me how to clear to a #61_1 error and to then reset that error. It did not work. the #61_1 error went back to a #61 error. I read some more and it said I needed to clear the Cmos. I happened to remember I had a chip to do that. I went through the whole process and set the value for the bill validator ran the machine and I ended up with another #61 error. I turns out the chip I used was only a set chip. I ordered a new set of chips and then ran the clear chip and as I and it fixed everything up. Sorry for being so windy, but I was hoping this might help someone else. Thanks for the help, Bruce Title: Re: error 61 can't clear Post by: rickhunter on January 08, 2014, 02:19:48 PM Excellent, enjoy your machine!!!
