Title: Game king pre-buy inspection checklist Post by: jiggywithit on January 18, 2014, 05:01:44 AM I'm going to go take a look at a IGT Game King tomorrow.. I have never seen inside one of these
machines and I don't know too much about it. I have a S2K so I am a little familiar with them, but I imagine the GK is a different platform entirely. I know I don't want a PE+, which I think is easy enough to spot just by the cabinet and buttons. (Right?) I am looking for some information on what I should look for during my pre-buy inspection and how to identify the platform.. I may want to upgrade it to a 044 at a future point in time. Title: Re: Game king pre-buy inspection checklist Post by: brianfink on January 18, 2014, 12:03:29 PM The easiest thing to spot it the two speakers that look just like s2000 speakers. In side the machine you should have I/O cards that look like s2000 I/O cards. As long as it has those you should be able to upgrade to an 044 later on. As far as the platform If the board has simm cards on it then it is 5.x if it just has eproms then it is 4.x. I would look at the game selection menu to see what games are available. And ask for a key chip to change them.

I'm buying from a private party which has no knowledge of the machine, so I'll have to pick up a key chip from a forum member here. Here's the ad to the machine I am going to look at. I negotiated a little and I can get it for $550. https://phoenix.craigslist.org/cph/vgm/4256816027.html Attached is a pic of the cpu tray. It appears to be like my S2K Title: Re: Game king pre-buy inspection checklist Post by: Buzz on January 18, 2014, 03:34:57 PM Brian This thread just goes to show you that the other Brian doesn't know anymore about Game Kings than you do. I have G/K that does not have dog ear speakers nor a IO card ( I should say a IO as he knows them )
The Craigslist you posted is for sure a Game King and IMO it's a steal at $700. ( I've sold a bunch of them just like that for a Grand. and NO stand.) If I was within 100 miles of this machine it would be mine at $550 and I need another one like I need another rectum. I'm gonna overlosd my butt here, I don't think a PE or PE+ ever had a monitor larger than a 13 " screen, a PE or PE+ never had a touch screen, a PE or PE+ would display only 5 games on the screen. ( 5 games was all that was on the sofrware ) The picture I just looked at I think that this machine has a LCD monitor ( can't be 100 % sure ) it's a 19" monitor. If it is a 19" LCD the monitor is worth damn near what you can get the machine for. Forget this S 2000 platform stuff. A Game King was never on a S 2000 platform, I'm not sure but I think a GK came out ahead on a S 2000. On my way to pick it up now! Title: Re: Game king pre-buy inspection checklist Post by: Buzz on January 18, 2014, 04:28:01 PM Brian The first Game King I bought I drove 400 miles one way to get it and paid $1200 for it. It's was 19" CRT,chop top and it was in Phoenix. ( still have it )
Because of the key lock on the MPU tray I'm going to guess this machine has a 3802 board. I'll send you a Key 040 Monday. Title: Re: Game king pre-buy inspection checklist Post by: Yoeddy1 on January 18, 2014, 04:36:24 PM Yup, no brainer...definitely buy it at that price! Like Buzz, I too drove almost 400 miles when I bought my GK and paid 1200 bucks.
Jason Title: Re: Game king pre-buy inspection checklist Post by: jiggywithit on January 18, 2014, 06:23:56 PM Purchase complete!! Thanks guys. I'll post some pictures when I get it unloaded and into my game room.

Board is complete with a bootleg battery repair. After closer inspection there are quite a few things that need to be repaired, but I like it because it gives me something to do. Title: Re: Game king pre-buy inspection checklist Post by: Buzz on January 18, 2014, 11:44:32 PM Brian It's a 3802 board, nothing wrong with it but your restricted to the games you can put on it. If and when you get a replacement board get a 3902.

I checked suzo happ and found the 19" touch screen netplex kit for $650 :60-. Is that the one I need? What about the door bezel? Title: Re: Game king pre-buy inspection checklist Post by: blueridgeslots on January 19, 2014, 12:42:00 AM You have a Game King and Not a Game King Plus so you can NOT upgrade to the 044 platform
The model you have came out in Late 1996 Early 1997 and would be compared to a I Game (Not I+), these were the video platform that went with the Series of games know as 960 platform. In Steppers they were called Vision and Vision Ready. In late 1999 the I+ and GK+ were introduced along with the S-2000 and where the newer I/O set up and better sounds were standard The I Game themes in this cabinet were like Wheel of Fortune (orig), Double Bucks, Roamin Rhinos and such (all eproms) The GK (not GK+) were available in 13" Monitor (like PE+) and 19" like you have Don't confuse the 19" I+/GK+ LCD you see in listings as a drop in for these Just for reference in Late 1999 there were I+ and GK+ without Bat Ear Speakers also and the first 17" monitors btw.. also just for reference the PE+ was available in a 19" monitor in later years and also there was a PE+ 13" Touchscreen multi game unlike the 5 game, I have one but can't remember the game names. It could have been an IGT prototype or something as I got it in Reno at a brokers but is all IGT stuff inside Title: Re: Game king pre-buy inspection checklist Post by: 777sizzler on January 19, 2014, 12:50:11 AM I was waiting on the word from the horse's mouth. I just could not say it and Jim you can "bet" knows his sheet. :259- Plus 1 does not pay the bills--I know Brother.

I thought I could upgrade this to 044.. am I able to upgrade this to a LCD display? I think its the CRT but the graphics are pretty awful. Title: Re: Game king pre-buy inspection checklist Post by: CVslots on January 19, 2014, 02:34:15 AM I'm sure you could upgrade to a LCD. Check around and you can find used ones every once in awhile, and avoid the $650 sting...

I've seen references of "touchscreen" on a couple of PE+ schematics, but I've never come across one that actually had any touchscreen components. I always assumed that they were planning for it, but then never went through with it when they decided to just develop the Game King platform. The local casino used to have some PE+ "Big Bertha" machines with enormous CRT monitors in them with video slots (Super 8 Line comes to mind) and video poker. Title: Re: Game king pre-buy inspection checklist Post by: brianfink on January 23, 2014, 10:55:33 AM Well, I would say you still got a good deal for the price. I have never tried to upgrade to LCD on one that old, but you should be able to. Just make shore whoever you get the monitor from knows you have the older gameking chassis. I would definitely get a newer board and software as Buzz suggested. But what do I know.
