Title: Is this a monitor issue or a program issue? Post by: SilverFerret on January 23, 2014, 01:55:05 PM At first I thought I had corrected this problem with a new power supply but unfortunately a week later it was back. And now when I turn the machine on, it's looks and works fine for about a minute and then the monitor gets pixelated and the colors get funky (as seen in pics). Game play is fine but I always turn it off incase it's doing damage somehow.
I've cleaned about every connection I can see and jiggled every socket looking for loose connections with no change to the issue. Possibly a battery on the board? I'm really at a loss. I can tell you it's NOT the monitor/display. The monitor is ANALOG, it only displays what is sent to it.It can't make blocks or pixels on it's own. I have seen this before, suspect EEPROM chips,data is written to them, then retrieved as needed. When the data becomes corrupt this is what happens. Power supply is always a good place to start, backup battery also. Pull chips, look at the pins and socket for gunk. Clean the pins using a X-Acto knife.Gently scrape them shiny with the knifeblade. Clean edge connectors with a eraser,do not TOUCH them with fingers! If you did, wipe them down with alcohol.Skin oil screws them up. Just my 2 cents worth.... I did what you suggested, even changed the battery on the board and did a clear procedure. What's odd is that it starts off looking correct and after a few moments, the screen goes funny again. But what's even more odd is that when opening and closing the top (it's a bartop BTW), as if there's a bad connection somewhere, the jarring of the lid closing, corrects the picture again. Then a moment later it goes funny again. The longer the machine is on the less the jarring returns the screen to narmal and at some point it doesn't help to correct the screen at all. So then it could be the monitor? When I noticed it changed when i bumped the cabinet, I wasn't sure what was causing the issue.
