Hi all, This one has me stumped. s-plus  I have read other posts on this & could not find a solution. When I plug in the molex for the hopper, the top 6a fuse blows & the display goes out. I checked power supply for coins, looked ok, swapped it with a known working one. checked the solenoid wires for the pull arm, not shorting on the case. installed a known working mpu & mother board, installed a known working complete door & harness. clipped ties on harness for the hopper wires, traced wires, no shorts found. installed a known working receptor for the hopper. Still blowing the darn fuse. Any other suggestions other than a big hammer?   :37-  :37-  :37-  :37-  :37-

This is a case for Jim/MidWest or stayoutofthebunker.....

P/J109   from the power supply carry 115vac from the power supply to the SSR ( SOLID STATE RELAY)  hot side,  and the common goes to the hopper plug.  either something is miss wired  in or around the SSR.  If the machine works with this plug undone  then the problem has to be with the SSR or the wiring to it.  the SSR has 5 wires going to it,  gray/red to pos.#2, gray/violet to pos.#1, and green to the center position. on the other side two posts, black/red to one post, comes from the plug j109, white/black from the other post goes to pin 11 of the hopper plug.  pin three from the plug  J109 go to the hopper plug pin 12, its color is white/red.  pin2  J109 is the earth ground  green/yellow.

I'm pretty sure somebody swapped a wire connector either on the SSR or the hopper beau plug.

No luck, I decided to just yank the coin stuff & set it up for hand pay.

that makes no sense at all.    So the entire machine works, EXCEPT  when that top molex plug is plugged in???   then it blows a fuse??      that cable only handles 115vac.   

I would love to see that coin stuff, I love a good challenge, I've NEVER had a S+ that I couldn't fix.

I would send you some pics, but I put the parts back into the Earthquake machine, It all works fine in that one. I'll probably mess with it more in the future, but for now its good enough. I have several other machines that need attention at the moment that I want to get out of the way. When I do find the problem, I'll be sure to post it.

I had this same exact thing happen about 6 months ago.  Had a guy bring a machine for repair (S-Plus)  It would blow that 6 amp fuse unless the molex to the hopper was disconnected.
Now here is where it gets strange.  It ended up being a wire touching the cabinet wall at the handle release solenoid.   WTF?  I kept looking at the schematic, thinking this makes no dam sense whatsoever.  But hell, why argue, the machine is now fixed and not blowing the fuse.  My mind will never put this one together, the strangest thing I have had happen on any slot.  A WTF for life, LOL's

That's the second thing I checked, looked good.

Could be a bad hopper motor.....

A motor is a big coil of insulated wire... doesn't take much for a wire to get overheated in a 20 (plus+) year old hopper......and once the insulation burns off.... you get a short.

Do you have a different hopper you can try ??

It blows the fuse without the hopper installed.

I wonder if the SSR might have a short inside when warmed up?
It's that red (sometimes black) plastic box next to the hopper beau plug.
I never took one apart...I don't know what's inside of it really.

I always suspect coins under the motherboard.

Me too but that's more and more rare ever since they put that gray foam piece under there?
But yeah, not all machines have it.
