Title: Credit limits on the LED display
Post by: Magicslots on April 27, 2009, 08:43:04 PM
:5- O.K. Another stupid question from a newbie..
Since the physical limits of the Credits is 9999, How does the machine indicate a jackpot in excess of 10,000?  Does it just lock up and blink?  Or carry over to the Winner Paid display? :60-

There are a number of limits......

1. Hopper Limit - this would be the maximum number of coins paid from the hopper. Common limits were 300, 400 & 1000. On the older chips these were dip switch selectable.
When you hit the hopper limit the machine goes into Hand Pay

2. Credit Limit - this is the maximum number of credits that the machine can have on it. After this point they are paid from the hopper.
So if you put a Credit limit of 800, and a hopper limit of 400 and hit a 1200 coin jackpot, you would get 800 Credits, 400 coins.
If you hit a 1500 coin jackpot the machine would go into Hand Pay.

On the older game chips the hopper and credit limits are the same.

You will note that a lot of themes have their top jackpot set to 1199 and most glass is not denoted in $$ its listed as coins.
The latter allows the casino to make this a 1c, 5c, 25c or dollar slot.
The reason for this limit is that if the machine happens to be in dollars anything at or over 1200 requires the filing of a W2-G and mandatory withholding.
At 1199 you can take your winnings and not report them

So the hand pay limit is usually 1200......even on themes with higher payouts.

I once won a $1200 jackpot on a leap frog machine and had to pay 40% in taxes.    :81-

Any single pay in excess of 9999 MUST be a jackpot lockup on an S+. There is no setting that will change that. However, if you have the option to display the jackpot amount in the LEDs when one hits, then yes, it will carry over and use both displays to show the number by putting the "1" in the other window.
